Govt may sell 30% share of BSNL in Public by IPO. Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee's disinvestment-related revenues for 2010-11 are most likely to come from telecom with evidence that the government is seriously evaluating disinvestment of as much as 30% in BSNL, a company with assets worth Rs 88,000 crore and a turnover of Rs 35,000 crore. This is a three-fold hike in the investment limit from 10% proposed earlier, which has been opposed by BSNL's unions and executive associations. The unions will now be further provoked about the revival of the disinvestment process and an added proposal to retire 1 lakh employees through VRS schemes. BSNL has 90 million subscribers, 300,000 employees, India's largest 750,000 km optic fibre cable network and nearly 40,000 towers.

Road accidents claim 20 lifes in Rajasthan

Two road accidents in rajasthan claims 20 life in Tonk and Jodhpur districts of Rajasthan. Fifteen people died and more than 30 were injured in a collision between a Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation(RSRTC) bus and truck trailer near Deoli in Tonk district this afternoon, police said. In Tonk, the accident occurred near Saroli diversion around 1330 hrs when the Khetri bound bus rammed into the iron rods/angles ladden trailer which was coming from the opposite direction, a police spokesman said. The collision was so powerful that the iron rods and angles pierced through the bus from the driver's side. The deceased included seven men, six women, two children, the spokesman said.
While eight of the injured were still being treated at a hospital in Deoli, 16 were referred to Kota for hospitalisation there. In a separate incident, four people were killed and eight injured when their jeep collided with a truck near Denchu on Jodhpur-Jaisalmer Road around 1130 hrs.

Google launches 'person finder' for Chile quake victims

Following the huge earthquake in Chile, Google has activated an online "person finder" tool toallow relatives and friends to find their loved ones.The "Person Finder: Chile Earthquake" from the California-based Internet giant is located at Chilepersonfinder.appspot.com It offers users the choice of using it in English and Spanish.

It asks users "What is your situation?" and gives them the choice between "I'm looking for someone" and "I have information about someone." Users can then search records by name or input information about someone. As of 1:15 pm (local time) on Saturday, Google's "person finder" was tracking around 1,400 records. Google had also deployed a "person finder" following last month's earthquake in Haiti.

India beat arch rival Pakistan 4-1 in the Hero Honda Hockey World Cup at Major Dhayan Chand Stadium in New Delhi on Sunday night. In the early minutes of second-half of the match, Prabhjot Singh scored the third goal. Sandeep Singh gave India an upper hand as he scored the second goal for the hosts in the 35th minute. India took a 1-0 lead when Shivendra Singh converted one penalty corner to goal in the 27th minute. India has faced Pakistan 4 times in the World Cup and both have won twice each. Air force chopper 'Sarang' crashes at Pokaran

Advanced light helicopter (ALH) of the Indian Air Force (IAF) Sarang aerobatic display team crashed Saturday, ahead of the firepower demonstration at Pokaran. "The aircraft suddenly lost power and crashed after the pilot was unable to regain control," the officer told IANS. It crashed at the Jaisalmer airfield, about 50 km from the Pokhran ranges. Both the pilot and the co-pilot of the helicopter were safe. A depleted three-helicopter Sarang team displayed its skills at Sunday's fire power show. This is the second crash of a Sarang ALH in three years. The first happened ahead of the February 2007 AeroIndia International airshow in Bangalore.

Engineering college student dies after fall from hostel roof at private engineering college at jaipur. The body of a 20-year-old engineering student was found on the campus of a college in the Sitapura area on Friday night. Ruling out the possibility of murder or suicide, the police said the student had fallen from the rooftop of the college hostel where he lived. The police suspect he was drunk. According to the police, the deceased, Abhishek Kumar Das, a resident of Madhubani in Bihar, was a third year mechanical engineering student of Kautilya Institute Of Technology And Engineering. He stayed at the college hostel housed in a four-storey building.
"He was last seen by other college mates on the ground floor at around 9 pm. His room was on the third floor. Some students went to his room later and found him missing. When they came downstairs, they heard moans and rushed outside. They saw Abhishek in a pool of blood," said Surendra Singh, incharge of Shivdaspura police station.
