Bajrang Punia Wins Gold at Asian Wrestling Championship 2017

Bajrang Punia gave India its first gold medal as he registered a come-from-behind victory over Seungchul Lee of Korea in men's 65kg freestyle on the penultimate day of the Asian Wrestling Championship 2017 on 13th May 2017. After registering a fabulous 6-2 win, Bajrang celebrated by taking a victory lap with the tri-colour on his shoulders. Bajrang, who has been mentored by Olympic bronze-medallist Yogeshwar Dutt, made a dramatic comeback in the second round of the contest to win the title. After trailing by two points in the opening three minutes, the Indian was more aggressive in the second round, unleashing counterattacks to which his rival had no response.  Bajrang Punia, born on 26 February 1994 in Jhajjar, Haryana is a freestyle wrestler from India. He was born in a jat family. He began wrestling at the age of seven and was encouraged to pursue the sport by his father.

साक्षी मलिक ने महिला कुश्ती में पहला ओलंपिक मेडल जीता

रियो ओलंपिक में भारतीय महिला पहलवान साक्षी मलिक ने 58 किलो भार वर्ग की फ्रीस्टाइल कुश्ती में ब्रॉन्ज मेडल जीतकर इतिहास रच दिया है। ये कारनामा करने वाली वो पहली भारतीय महिला पहलवान बनीं। साक्षी ने रेपचेज के फाइनल मुकाबले में किर्गिजस्तान की पहलवान एसुलू तिनिवेकोवा को मात देकर रियो ओलंपिक में भारत को पहला मेडल दिलाया। इस कामयाबी के लिए प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने साक्षी को बधाई दी है। सूचना एवं प्रसारण राज्य मंत्री राज्यवर्द्धन राठौड़ ने भी साक्षी मलिक को उनके बेहतरीन खेल के लिए बधाई दी।

साक्षी ने किर्गिजस्तान की पहलवान के सामने जबरदस्त खेल दिखाकर ब्रॉन्ज मेडल पर कब्जा जमाया। पहले राउंड में वो किर्गिस्‍तान की पहलवान एसुलू तिनिवेकोवा से 0-5 से हार गईं थीं। दूसरे राउंड की शुरुआत में पिछड़ने के बाद साक्षी ने जबरदस्त वापसी की और 8-5 से दूसरा सेट जीतकर मुकाबला बराबर किया, और देश को कांस्‍य पदक दिलाकर भारत का रियो ओलंपिक में खाता खुलवाया।

सुप्रीम कोर्ट के आदेश के बाद हरियाणा पंचायत चुनाव स्थगित

राजस्थान की तर्ज पर उम्मीदवारों की शैक्षणिक योग्यता मामले को लेकर सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने हरियाणा पंचायत चुनाव को अगले आदेश तक स्थगित कर दिया है। सुप्रीम कोर्ट में इस मामले की अगली सुनवाई 7 अक्टूबर को होगी। पंचायत चुनाव में शैक्षणिक योग्यता की अनिवार्यता के मसले पर सोमवार को सुनवाई के दौरान सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने बडे सवाल उठा दिए थे। सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने हरियाणा सरकार से पूछा कि शैक्षणिक योग्यता पंचायत चुनाव में ही सदस्यों के लिए क्यों है। सासंदों और विधायकों के लिए य हनियम क्यों नहीं लागू किया जाता।
न्‍यायमूर्ति जे चेलमेश्‍वर की अध्‍यक्षता वाली पीठ को हरियाणा सरकार की ओर से महाधिवक्‍ता मुकुल रोहतगी ने बताया कि योग्‍यता के मुद्दे पर अनिश्चितता के बीच चुनाव नहीं कराए जा सकते। हरियाणा राज्‍य निर्वाचन आयोग ने न्‍यायालय से कहा कि वह कानून की वैधता पर निर्णय होने तक चुनाव नहीं करा सकता। सरकार का पक्ष सुनने के बाद उच्‍चतम न्‍यायालय ने माना कि ऐसे में मौजूदा चुनाव कार्यक्रम असंगत हो गया है। हरियाणा में पंचायत चुनाव तीन चरणों में 4, 11 और 18 अक्‍तूबर को होने थे। उच्‍चतम न्‍यायालय 7 अक्‍तूबर को इस मामले की अंतिम सुनवाई करेगा।

Cartoonist Pran, Creator of Chacha Chaudhary passes away

Cartoonists Pran Kumar Sharma, Cartoonist Pran, Creator of Chacha Chaudhary, sabu and other character died on Wednesday. Pran was the man behind the famous comic series Chacha Chaudhury. His others famous characters included cartoons like Sabu, Shrimatiji, Pinki, Billoo, Raman, Channie Chachi and many more. Pran succumbed to cancer early on Wednesday morning at a hospital in Gurgaon, according to his publisher Diamond Comics. He was 75. "Pran passed away at 9 AM at the Medanta hospital. He had been suffering from cancer of the intestine for the past eight months. He is survived by a son and a daughter," Gulshan Rai, Publisher, Diamond Comics, said. Born in Kasur, near Lahore in Pakistan in 1938, Pran began his career in 1960 as a cartoonist for the Delhi-based newspaper Milap with comic strip Daabu In 1969, Pran sketched Chacha Chaudhary for the Hindi magazine Lotpot, which made him famous.

Comic book character Chacha Chaudhary's creator Pran Kumar Sharma was a "versatile cartoonist who brought smiles on the faces of people", Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday, expressing grief at his demise. "PM described Pran Kumar Sharma as a versatile cartoonist who brought smiles on the faces of people through his rich work," the official Twitter handle of the PMO said.

Sushil Kumar, Amit Kumar, Vinesh Phogat wins Gold for India

On 6th day of Commonwealth Games i.e. 29th July, 2014, India won 10 medals (3 Gold, 3 Silver an 4 Bronze). It was Sushil's first major international medal after his pet 66kg category was removed and he had to add nine kilograms to adjust in a new weight bracket. Sushil had won both his Olympic medals, bronze in Beijing and silver in London, 2010 World Championship gold, 2010 Asian Games gold and the 2010 Commonwealth Games gold in the 66kg category. Sushil was leading 6-2 in the first period when referee V. Keelan decided to give it in favour of the Indian, who managed to pin down Abbas.  Amit Kumar gets the gold medal in the men's FS 57kg. He beat Nigeria's E Welson 6-2. Kumar took the early lead and went up 4-0 before the Nigerian got back 2 points. But the Indian was too quick, got another two points and clinched the gold medal. Narayan Sai arrested from Pipli, Kurukshetra

Narayan Sai arrested today by Gujarat and Delhi Police from  from Pipli near Kurukshetra (Haryana) where he was hiding with his close aides. According to initial reports, Sai was arrested in a joint operation by the Gujarat, Punjab and Delhi Police. He has been taken to Delhi for interrogation and will be produced before Rohini court at 2 pm today. Sai was absconding from the last two months and he had been declared an absconder by a Surat court in a sexual assault case. He was reportedly dressed up as a Sikh when he was arrested
Narayan Sai , accused of raping two sisters in Surat, had been absconding for the past 58 days. Narayan Sai’s four aides Hanuman, Bhawika, Ramesh and Vishnu were also arrested along with him. Narayan Sai will be produced before the Rohini court in Delhi at 2pm.

If needed, Govt to bring another loan waiver for farmers - Sachin Pilot

Corporate affairs minister & Ajmer MP Sachin Pilot on Sunday said the Centre would not hesitate to bring in another loan waiver scheme for farmers if there was a need and that the government would protect the interests of farmers and poor. Pilot was addressing a big gathering of farmers, largely Gujjars, in Gurgaon after unveiling his father Rajesh Pilot's statue along with Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.  Addressing a 'Kisan Sammelan' in this satellite city on the occasion of his late father Rajesh Pilot's 68th birth anniversary, Pilot listed the "pro-farmer and pro-people" initiatives taken by the Congress-led coalition in the past eight years. "We have always stood for the welfare of farmers. We know their importance and that is why the UPA Government during its previous tenure brought the Rs 70,000-crore farm loan waiver scheme. It helped lakhs of farmers in the country who have been struggling to pay back their loans," he said.

He was speaking after Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda unveiled a statue of late Rajesh Pilot in Sector 55 on the Golf Course Road. Hooda also renamed the stretch as Rajesh Pilot Road. Rajesh Pilot, who died in a road accident in Rajasthan in 2000, had represented Dausa and Bharatpur constituencies in Parliament. Pilot also said Congress was the only party which gives importance to "youth power" and cited Rahul Gandhi's elevation as Vice-President as an instance of how the youth are rewarded in the party. Sachin Pilot said villages should be the centre of development and that the country cannot progress unless 6.5 lakh villages in the country sees development.

Single entrance test for IIT, NIT, IIIT from 2013

From 2013, aspiring candidates for IITs and other central institutes like NITs and IIITs will have to sit under new a format of entrance test which will also take plus two board results into consideration. All existing entrance exams to these institutes will be replaced with a new common entrance exam to be conducted in two parts — JEE Main and JEE advanced. Announcing this here on Monday, Union Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal said a consensus was reached after deliberations spanning over two years. A meeting of the Joint Councils of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), the Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) and other Central educational institutions approved the common admission process with weightage to performance in the Class XII Board examinations. The Senate and faculty of the IITs had resisted the plan, citing the standards of the institutions. But the problem was resolved, with the IITs having been allowed to maintain a separate merit list. However, this will be reviewed after 2015, when the IITs will also join the common merit list. To be conducted by the IITs' Joint Admission Board (JAB), the test will be held in two parts on the same day — JEE main and JEE advanced. 

The IITs will first screen students on the basis of a merit prepared by granting weightage to them in the ratio of 50 pc for Class XII exam marks and 50 pc for marks obtained in the “main” component of the test. The top 50,000 scorers on the merit list will be eligible for admission to the IITs and their “advanced” component papers alone will be evaluated by the IITs to prepare a final merit list for admissions. This merit list won’t have any place for school exam marks. Haryana, Gujarat and Maharashtra have agreed to join the new format instead of having separate exams for state engineering colleges. IITs will design both the main and the advanced components of the common engineering test and will join other institutes on a common format by 2015. Both tests, main and advanced, will be MCQ type and will be held the same day as against the wishes of IIT Senates that wanted the IIT advanced test to be subjective and to be held on a different day than the common engineering test. Sibal, however, declined this suggestion of the IITs. “Our first priority was to reduce stress of exams on students and the next was to restore the importance of Class XII, which students don’t seem to take seriously,” Sibal noted.

Plane crash kills 10 in Faridabad, Haryana

An air ambulance carrying a critically ill patient crashed into a residential area in Faridabad on Wednesday night killing 10 people. A small aircraft with seven on board crashed into a colony in Faridabad’s sector 22 around 10.45 pm on Wednesday, killing all the seven people on board. Five more persons were killed on the ground. The aircraft, a PC-12 with registration number VT-ACF, was operating as an air ambulance and initial reports indicated bad weather was the cause of the accident.
The plane fell on two houses in the middle of Parvatia Colony, near Jawahar Colony, NIT, and immediately burst into flames. There were five passengers and two crew members on board. They included the 22-year-old patient, Rahul Raj, besides an attendant, two doctors, one male nurse, the pilot and co-pilot. Those killed were Dr Rajesh, Dr Arshad, Captain Harpreet, co-pilot Manpreet Kataria, Ratnesh Kumar and male nurse Cyril. Rahul Raj and his cousin, Ratnesh, are residents of Bettiah in West Champaran.

BKU President Mahendra Singh Tikait passes away

Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) president Mahendra Singh Tikait, who headed several farmer agitations, died here this morning after prolonged illness. He was 76. Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) Mahendra Singh Tikait breathed last on Sunday morning at the residence of his elder son in Muzaffarnagar, UP. Tikait was suffering from cancer and liver problem since quite a long time and succumbed to his illness at his son Rakesh Tikait's residence at around 7am. He was 76 and is survived by four sons and two daughters.
His mortal remains would be kept in Muzaffarnagar till 4pm and thereafter would be shifted to his native village Sisauli, headquarters of BKU, where it will be kept at Kisan Bhawan for public to pay their last respects. His last rites would be carried out at his village on Monday afternoon. Mahendra Singh Tikait emerged as a popular farmer leader after Choudhary Charan Singh and he raised many issues of farmers. At times, union and state government bent before this leader who kept the BKU united even at the time of crisis.

Census 2011:Population of Haryana is 2.5 Crore

Population of Haryana as per Census 2011 is 25353081 (2.5 Crore approx.) which much higher than 2001 data which claims 2.1 Crore population. India's new national census has put the population at about 1.21 billion people, or 17% of the world population, the census commissioner said.The population comprising 623.7 million males and 586.5 million females is almost equal to the combined population of the United States, Indonesia, Brazil, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Japan put together. The population has increased by more than 181 million during the decade 2001-2011, the report said. The growth rate in 2011 is 17.64 per cent in comparison to 21.15 per cent in 2001.

Jat agitation withdrawn after talks with Hooda

The agitating Jats in Haryana have withdrawn their agitation late tonight following a meeting of their leaders with the Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda in Jind. In a statement issued here today, the Chief Minister said that those agitating have agreed to lift all blockades and dharnas with immediate effect. He said that it has also been decided to set up a Haryana Backward Classes Commission within a month. The Commission would consider the demand of communities of Roar,Jat, Jat Sikh,Tyagi,Bishnoi and any other community who wish to be under the ambit of the Backward Classes in the State.
They have now agreed to lift all blockades, especially after the Supreme Court directed the Haryana and UP governments to immediately control the situation. The Commission would consider the demand of communities of Roar, Jat, Jat Sikh, Tyagi, Bishnoi would come under the ambit of the Backward Classes. Also, the Supreme Court on Thursday asked Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan governments to ensure that supply of essential commodities including water to the national capital was not disrupted in the wake of threats by Jats agitating for quota in central jobs.

Two killed in encounter with Haryana police

Two suspected associates of a man, wanted in a case of alleged robbery, were killed on Thursday night and one injured in an encounter with a Haryana police team in Rajasthan's Sriganganagar district. The Haryana police team in a vehicle was chasing robbery accused Sukhvinder Singh who was in a car with his two associates. When they entered Sriganganagar, the police team challenged them, sparking the encounter at Padampur area, Rupendra Singh, Sriganganagar SP, said.
He said two persons identified as Jaggi and Dheeru were killed and Sukhvinder was injured in the encounter. Sukhvinder was arrested and shifted to the district hospital. "When we stopped both the vehicles near 1-TK area, the Haryana police team members introduced themselves and informed us about the case. Earlier, it was thought to be a gangwar", Singh said.

SC directs UP, Haryana and Rajasthan Govts to ensure supply to Delhi

Supreme Court on Thursday asked Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan governments to ensure that supply of essential commodities including water to the national capital is not disrupted in the wake of threats by Jats agitating for quota in central jobs. A bench of justices Altamas Kabir and Dalveer Bhandari also specifically asked Haryana, Uttar Pradesh to also ensure that transportation of petroleum products from Mathura and Panipat oil refineries to Delhi are not affected in any manner.
The bench issued these directions on two urgent petitions filed by the Delhi Jal Board and the Indian Oil Corporation during a special sitting held at the apex court, which is currently closed on account of Holi holidays. Meanwhile Uttar Pradesh government has deployed about 35 companies of Provincial Armed Constabulary and Rapid Action Force in the Jat dominating areas including Agra, Aligarh, Moradabad, Meerut and Saharanpur divisions.

Jat leaders set two deadlines 25, 28 March

Threatening to block the busy railway track and roads leading to Delhi and even disrupting the water supply to the national capital, agitating Jat community leaders in Haryana on Tuesday said the central and state governments should take concrete steps by Friday to meet their demand for job quotas. Hundreds of Jats continued to block railway tracks in Hisar, Jind and Bhiwani districts of Haryana on Tuesday, saying they will not budge till their demand for inclusion in the other backward classes (OBC) quota was accepted by the central and Haryana governments.
"We will not withdraw our agitation till the central and state governments accept our demand for reservation. We will fight for our rights till the end," Jat leader Hawa Singh Sangwan said. Talks between Jat leaders and Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda in Hisar on Monday failed to yield any result. Hooda had earlier said that Jats should get reservation only in central government jobs. The Jat leaders have set two deadlines, March 25 (Friday) and March 28.

Jat agitation disrupts rail services

Jat agitation continued to disrupt train services in many parts of Haryana on Wednesday as well. 66 trains including Shatabadi and Rajdhani were cancelled on the northern and north-western sector and many trains were diverted. The Jats are demanding a quota for their community in government jobs. Leaders of Jat Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti will meet today at Narwana and decide whether to continue talks with Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. On Tuesday, the Barwala power plant in Haryana stopped operation in face of the Jat agitation which paralysed freight movement and passenger train services to northern states.
With the agitating Jat leaders setting March 28 as the deadline for the Centre to decide on their demand for putting them in the OBC category, different groups in Delhi and its suburbs are holding the stock-taking meetings on March 26. Sources claimed local leaders have set that day to devise a strategy to paralyze the capital in case the central government turns down their demand.

The blockade led to cancellation of 760 trains and affected over 1000 trains in last 15 days. Jat leader Yashpal Mallik said that while respecting the high court order and in public interest, Jats have decided to vacate tracks but agitation will continue and they may block the roads to Delhi again if their demand is not met by next week. He said that agitations in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan will also continue. "We will announce our future course of action in the evening after the meeting with the central government representatives in Delhi," he said. He said that Jats will not withdraw agitation till their demand is met. Jats already get OBC reservation in UP and Rajasthan.
