Kalyan Singh sworn-in as 20th Governor of Rajasthan

Former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Kalyan Singh was on Thursday sworn-in as the 20th Governor of Rajasthan. Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court Sunil Ambwani administered the oath of office to Mr. Singh at a ceremony held at Raj Bhawan in Jaipur. Before that, Chief Secretary Rajiv Mehirshi read out the warrant of appointment issued by the President. Assembly Speaker Kailash Meghwal, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and senior officers were present on the occasion.  Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik was holding the additional charge of Rajasthan before the appointment of Kalyan Singh. Mr. Naik was given the additional charge of Rajasthan after Margaret Alva completed her term on August 5.
Enthusiast party workers shouted slogans 'Jai Shri Ram' and 'Vande Mataram' when Singh was taking the oath. He was also given a guard of honour. Singh had been the face of BJP’s Ram Mandir campaign back in the 80’s and 90’s. The ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogan also picked up its political connotation back then. A Governor’s post is a constitutional office, and the shouting of the slogan at the swearing in of a Governor was condemned by the Congress. Kalyan said that there’s no harm in such kind of chanting as it’s a matter of their faith and love.

Kalyan Singh is New Rajasthan Governor

Former Uttar Pradesh (UP) chief minister Kalyan Singh appointed New Governor of Rajasthan. Centre government named four Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders for the Raj Bhavans in Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa. Gujarat speaker Vajubhai Vala has been appointed governor of Karanatka, where H R Bharadwaj had completed his tenure recently, while former union minister C Vidyasagar Rao will take the place of K.Shankaranarayanan, who quit as governor of Maharashtra on Sunday after he was shunted to Mizoram and former BJP Mahila Morcha president Mridula Sinha in Goa. The 82-year-old presided over Uttar Pradesh when Hindu mobs razed the Babri mosque in Ayodhya in December 1992.  A committed RSS worker, Kalyan Singh parted ways with the Bharatiya Janata Party following differences with former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
About Kalyan Singh: Kalyan Singh, born was born on 5 January 1932. He has served three terms as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and was appointed Governer of Rajasthan on 26th August 2014. Kalyan Singh is known as a Hindutva hardliner and his role in the Babri Masjid demolition was controversial. A committed RSS worker, Kalyan Singh parted ways with the Bharatiya Janata Party following differences with former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Belonging to the backward Lodh caste, he left the BJP for the first time in December 1999 and returned to it in January 2004.  Before the Lok Sabha election of 2009, he again left the BJP and joined forces with the Samajwadi Party. He contested from Etah as an independent and won. In the run up to the 2014 Lok Sabha battle, he buried his differences with then party president Rajnath Singh and returned to the BJP yet again.

Rajnath Singh elected New BJP president

Rajnath Singh has been elected unopposed as the new president of the BJP. The 61-year-old will now lead the party as it battles the Congress in next year's general election. His term will end in 2015. 61-year-old Singh from Uttar Pradesh, who takes over from Nitin Gadkari, returns to the political terrain in which the low-profile, soft-spoken and articulate leader found himself about six years ago when he was chosen by the saffron party to head it. General elections is due in May 2014. Singhs dramatic elevation to the top party post caps a period of big political churnings within BJP divided on re-electing Gadkari as president for a second time. It was Singh who had handed over the baton to Gadkari in December 2009.
But in a sudden and dramatic last-minute twist, Gadkari, facing allegations of dubious funding of his company, was last night forced out of the race for BJP President's post for a second term and Rajnath emerged the consensus choice. The party probably had little choice except to fall back on Singhs non-controversial image and a high degree of acceptability among rival groups in the organization. Singh has again been brought back by the party as chief just three days after the Congress elevated AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi as Vice President. How Singh will reshape the BJP to counter Congress charm offensive remains to be seen though he has often lauded BJPs democratic strength which has enabled a "commoner" like him to lead the party.

Rahul gandhi back in Bhatta-Parsaul, Mahapanchyat in Aligarh

Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi back in Bhatta-Parsaul, Raghupur, Rustampur and other villages before going to address a Kisan Mahapanchyat " in Aligarh on July 9 to raise the issues of farmers including land acquisition. The party had earlier planned to hold the rally in Bhatta-Parsaul village in Greater Noida - the epicentre of protest by farmers in May over acquisition of their land - but had to shift the venue to Aligarh as it was denied permission by the state government for Bhatta-Parsaul. "The state government did not give us permission to hold rally in Bhatta Parsaul or any other rural area. We have to hold it in a city so Aligarh was chosen as the venue," state Congress president Rita Bahuguna Joshi said.
She said a reason for choosing Aligarh as the venue of the rally was its rail connectivity which will ease travel for farmers. Congress leaders said that all issues related to farmers, including problems faced by them regarding availability of power and fertilisers, will be raised at the rally.

Uma Bharti returns to BJP

Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Uma Bharti, who was expelled from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in December 2005 for indiscipline, was re-inducted in the party on Tuesday after almost five and a half years. The decision to re-induct Uma Bharti was taken just days after the BJP's national executive meet concluded in Lucknow. Announcing Uma Bharti's return in the BJP, party president Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday welcomed her in the party at the party's headquarters in New Delhi.
Uma Bharti was suspended from the BJP in November 2004 and served a show-cause notice following her outburst against Advani before the media. Court issues Non-bailable warrant against Sanjay Dutt

Sanjay Dutt was slapped with a warrant by a local court in UP for making inflammatory speeches during his campaign for Samajwadi Party way back in year 2009 on Saturday. Judicial Magistrate Krishna Kumar issued the warrant against Dutt after he failed to appear before the court despite repeated summons and a bailable warrant, prosecution officials said. A case was lodged against Dutt, who was then national general secretary of Samajwadi Party, in April 2009 for making some controversial remarks while campaigning in favour of the party candidate Arshad Jamal. "When I was in police custody I was given third degree by them because my mother was a Muslim,” Dutt had allegedly said during a speech in Mau district in April 2009.
Dutt, had alleged that the police routinely harass Muslims. "They extract convictions from you (Muslims); they beat you up. They (police) told me my mother was a Muslim and my father was a Hindu. They made me sign on papers. TADA can finish anyone," he alleged. Despite repeated summons when the actor did not appeared before the court a bailable warrant was issued on March 26 this year, they said. The court also issued summon against SP candidate and co-accused in the case Jamal and directed Superintendent of Police and DIG of Azamgarh to serve the same through city inspector. The court said if report on serving summon was not submitted on the next date of hearing on July 8 action would be taken against the inspector.

Sachin Pilot arrested by UP Police, released

Minister of state for communications and information technology & Rajasthan's Ajmer MP Sachin Pilot was arrested by the UP Police on his way to violence-hit Bhatta Parsaul in Greater Noida. Pilot was arrested by the police under section 151. He was on his way to meet the farmers who have been agitating against land acquisition. Sachin Pilot was taken into preventive custody by the police at Lal Chowk outside the Bhatta-Parsaul villages - the epicentre of the land agitation in Uttar Pradesh. Claiming that he had not violated the law, Pilot after his release said, "We wanted to go to the villages...the UP police blocked the national highway for over an hour. They brought us here to the police lines without any reason. We had not planned meetings or speeches. We just wanted to give condolences."
The minister had earlier, alongwith 100 supporters, visited the Dasna jail in Ghaziabad where he met farmers lodged there since the agitation in the villages began. Pilot accused the state government of large-scale land-grabbing and demanded a "throrough probe" into the alleged atrocities on the villagers. "We would like a thorough probe to be conducted. They were treated badly for sure, and many people have said this before. But you know that if you go into any village and speak to a woman about rape with a camera to her face, it will be tough to get the truth. We would like this matter to be thoroughly investigated, and the people who have conducted a skewed investigation be subject to strict investigation also", Pilot said just before he was arrested.
