Lal Bahadur Shastri’s grandson Adarsh Shastri quits Rs.1 crore job at Apple to join Aam Aadmi Party

Adarsh Shastri, the grandson of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri and son of Congress leader Anil Shahstri has left his job as the sales head in Apple Inc and joined Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), said a news report on Saturday. Adarsh thanked people on Twitter for their wishes. “Thanks for your wishes, will try and live up to my grandfather’s name, we all feel his vacuum in these trying times,” he said. 

As AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal took oath as the Delhi Chief Minister along with six Cabinet ministers at Ramlila Maidan, Shastri said, “Today Delhi has witnessed the beginning of a new era, transfer of power of the people to the people by the people, democracy has truly won.”  With the announcement of Assembly election results on December 8 and AAP having a stunning debut, he said, “Victory of AAP is reaffirmation by people in the now old fashioned values of transparency and probity as espoused by my grandfather Shastriji.” He added, “With this massive defeat, witness the stage acting within Congress, save the chosen one or be doomed!! Google Science Fair 2013 is an international, online science and technology competition that encourages students between the ages of 13 to 18 to be curious, ask questions, and perform science experiments to answer those questions. In partnership with CERN, The Lego Group, National Geographic, and Scientific American, Google invites these students to post their science projects online so that they may compete for prizes, scholarships, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Google Science Fair 2013 launched on January 30. The project deadline for the competition is April 30, and the finalists/Science in Action Award will be announced in June. The Google Science Fair is an online science competition open to students ages 13-18 from around the globe. We're looking for ideas that will change the world. To get started, all you'll need is a Google account.

This year the event is organized by Google in partnership with CERN, LEGO, National Geographic and Scientific American. Aspirants can register for this event through the interface of Google Science Fair website. Once registered they can they can submit and continue editing their project up in the same website till 30th April 2013.

The best submission will be awarded the grand prize, which includes a 10 day trip to the Galapagos Islands – courtesy of National Geographic Expeditions. Rs. 10 plastic bank notes in India soon - Chidambaram

Indian Govt. has decided to bring Rs. 100 crore worth of plastic notes soon as per report to curb fake currency problem from across the border. Finance minister P Chidambaram said on Thursday. "Fake currency is a problem...This is a problem that arises from across the border," he said during Question Hour in Rajya Sabha. Without naming any country, he said it is not possible to check supply of fake notes at the source itself as "there is a state support".

Chidambaram informed the House that with a view to increasing the life of bank notes, particularly in lower dominations, the RBI in consultation with government has been considering various options including printing of polymer bank notes. He said a decision had accordingly been taken to introduce one billion pieces of Rs. 10 bank notes on polymer in a field trial basis in five cities. "The primary objective of introduction of polymer/plastic notes is to increase its life and not to combat counterfeiting," the minister said.

What are plastic / polymer notes: Plastic bank notes or polymer bank notes are made from a plastic polymer. They aim to incorporate a lot more convenience, durability and enhanced security features as compared to paper bank notes. If these polymer bank notes are implemented in the Indian system, India will be following the footsteps of Australia, New Zealand and a few other countries on the world in terms of currency notes. At the moment, a total of 7 countries have polymer bank notes in circulation.

BSNL website hacked, Now Down

State-owned telecom firm BSNL's Website was hacked today by a group that demanded withdrawal of section 66 A of the IT Act. The Website 'www.bsnl.co.in' was, however, quickly restored and Now Down from Morning.  The website was taken down in the afternoon and images of Aseem Trivedi were posted on the home page. The hackers claimed that all the websites of BSNL were taken down by them. Anonymous India rose to prominence in India when they hacked into Reliance Communications servers in May 2012. The website http://www.bsnl.co.in of BSNL, the Indian state-owned telecommunications company, the largest provider of Broadband, fixed telephony and fourth largest mobile telephony provider in India, and is also a provider of broadband services. 

The website’s homepage was hacked saying, “ Hacked by Anonymous India, support Aseem trivedi (cartoonist) and alok dixit on the hunger strike, remove IT Act 66a, databases of all 250 bsnl site has been deleted………….Do not think of BACKUP“ with a images of Mr. Aseem while he was arrested by Police.  The Twitter account of Anonymous India (@opindia_revenge) said, "BSNL Websites hacked, passwords and database leaked http://pastebin.com/wjtiyvx4 Anonymous India demands withdrawal of Sec 66A of IT Act." Trivedi and Dixit are on a hunger strike for the last six days in protest against Sec 66A of IT Act. Facing public protests on the recent controversial arrest of some persons for their Facebook posts using the section 66A of IT Act, Government last month came out with guidelines where a police officer no less than the rank of DCP can sanction prosecution. So a Govt. Organization website is targeting by Hackers to draw attention towards 66A of IT Act. This BSNL website hacking act will not affect the BSNL Broadband or any kind of user and website hosting is completely different that actual secure data of BSNL Users.

IPv6 addresses launched in India

Indian Registry for Internet Names and Numbers (IRINN) has started issuing next version of internet addresses 'IPv6', which would make it easy for security agencies to identify each internet user. "The number of IPv6 addresses available is enormous. ISPs (Internet Service Providers) can allocate an IP address to their users. People can be easily identified if they are using IPv6," APNIC Director (Services and Operations) Sanjaya said at the roadshow for new version IPv6. 

APNIC, which is one of the five authorised bodies for issuing Internet addresses, has recognised Indian Registry for Internet Names and Numbers (IRINN) for issuing IP addresses in India. "We are issuing IPv6 addresses at up to 60 per cent less than prevailing rates in the ongoing soft launch period.  IRINN is issuing initial set-of IPv6 addresses in price range starting at Rs 21,999 compared to prevalent rate of around Rs 66,000 in Asia Pacific region.

Neil Armstrong passes away

Former United States astronaut, and global icon Neil Armstrong, the first person to set foot on the moon, passed away at the age of 82, on Saturday. Armstrong underwent a heart-bypass surgery earlier this month, just two days after his birthday on 5th August, to relieve blocked coronary arteries. As commander of the Apollo 11 mission, Armstrong became the first human to set foot on the moon on July 20, 1969. As he stepped on the moon's dusty surface, Armstrong said: "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind." The Apollo 11 moon mission turned out to be Armstrong's last space flight. The following year he was appointed to a desk job, being named NASA's deputy associate administrator for aeronautics in the office of advanced research and technology.
He left NASA a year later to become a professor of engineering at the University of Cincinnati. The former astronaut lived in the Cincinnati area with his wife, Carol. Armstrong was born 5th August, 1930, on a farm near Wapakoneta in western Ohio. He took his first airplane ride at age 6 and developed a fascination with aviation that prompted him to build model airplanes and conduct experiments in a homemade wind tunnel. As a boy, he worked at a pharmacy and took flying lessons. He was licensed to fly at 16, before he got his driver's license.

NASA discovers 11 New Solar system, 26 Planets

National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced on Friday that its Kepler telescope has discovered 11 new planetary systems that include 26 confirmed alien planets. The new planets vary in size from one-and-a-half times the radius of Earth to bigger than Jupiter. Their orbital periods range from six to 143 days, and they all orbit closer to their stars than Venus does to our sun. The discoveries nearly double the number of alien worlds — or “exoplanets” planets — found by Kepler outside our solar system and help astronomers better understand how planets form. However, scientists still have to determine the make-up of the planets, such as whether their surfaces are rocky or gaseous. “Prior to the Kepler mission, we knew of perhaps 500 exoplanets across the whole sky,” Doug Hudgins, Kepler program scientist at NASA Headquarters in Washington, said in a statement. “Now, in just two years staring at a patch of sky not much bigger than your fist, Kepler has discovered more than 60 planets and more than 2,300 planet candidates. This tells us that our galaxy is positively loaded with planets of all sizes and orbits.” 

Kepler is NASA's first mission in search of Earth-like planets orbiting stars similar to our Sun. It launched in March 2009, equipped with the largest camera ever sent into space -- a 95-megapixel array of charge-coupled devices -- and is expected to continue its science operations until at least November 2012. In December last year, NASA announced Kepler had confirmed its first-ever planet in a habitable zone outside our solar system, Kepler 22b, though it remained unclear whether the surface was rocky or gaseous. Such planets have the right distance from their star to support water, plus a suitable temperature and atmosphere to support life. Spinning around its star some 600 light years away, Kepler 22b is 2.4 times the size of the Earth and orbits its Sun-like star every 290 days.

Google launches Online Music service

Google has launched its own online music service. Available on the Android Market, the Google Music service offers over 13 million tracks from the major labels Universal, Sony and EMI, as well as global independent rights agency Merlin and more than 1,000 independent labels including Merge Records, Warp Records, Matador Records, XL Recordings and Naxos. It's also working with digital distributors IODA, INgrooves, The Orchard and Believe Digital. Users can buy tracks and albums to download from a computer or Android device, and they will be added to the user's Google Music Library. The library can be synced across a range of devices and is also available for offline listening. In addition, Google is letting users share a free full play of each purchased song with friends on its social network Google+. The company is offering a number of exclusive tracks to launch the service, including live music and free tracks from the Rolling Stones, Coldplay, Shakira and Pearl Jam. The Google Music service launches initially in the US and will roll out as an upgrade to the Android Market on mobile devices running Android 2.2 and higher. Doodle for Google by Varsha Gupta selected for Childrens day

The doodle on Google's India page today has been created by Varsha Gupta, a Class III student from Ryan International School, Greater Noida. Varsha was chosen as the winner of this year's Doodle 4 Google competition organised by Google. Google had announced that it would put the winning Doodle 4 Google entry on the Google India homepage on Children's Day - 14th November 2011. Google India celebrates Children's Day with 7-year-old Varsha Gupta's Indian Musical Instruments doodle.
Explaining her doodle, Varsha writes, "India is a land of different cultures. In India, music plays a very important role. India has given many musical instruments to the world. Goddess Saraswati plays Veena, God Shiv plays Damaru. According to our mythological stories musical instruments used to be played on all the occasions. Even during war musical instruments were played. Lord Krishna's flute is known in the whole world for its magical music. In modern days Mr. Zakir Hussain is world famous as Tabla Mastro and Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma is known as a great Santoor player all over the world". Google India had presented Varsha with the winning certificate along with a technology starter package including a laptop, a year's Internet connection and a Rs 2,00,000 technology grant for her school. The competition was open to all students from Class I to Class X. This year participants were challenged to imagine their own version of the Google logo based on the theme 'India's gift to the world'.

Apple Founder Steve Jobs passes away at 56

Apple's  Founder and Former CEO Steve Jobs has passed away today, at the age of 56. Jobs has battled a rare form of pancreatic cancer for the last several years and sadly, he lost that battle today. TV news organizations including CNN, Fox News Channel and CNBC reported late in the 7 p.m. ET hour that Apple confirmed the news. MSNBC reported the news as Lawrence O'Donnell led off his The Last Word show at 8. CBS News broke into network programming at 7:50 ET. Anchor Scott Pelley said the network was breaking in because "An American Edison has died."
Jobs had been battling a long illness and recently stepped down from his position at the company. He was 56 years old. The Apple website posted the following message on their website: Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple. News that Steve Jobs had died also prompted statements from a number of people who had known him. Bob Iger, CEO of the Walt Disney Co., issued this statement, stressing how Jobs had not only had a major impact on the consumer electronics industry but on "millions of people" and the culture of the 21st century, which has been heavily influenced by devices that Apple under Jobs' direction had brought to market: "Steve Jobs was a great friend as well as a trusted advisor. His legacy will extend far beyond the products he created or the businesses he built. It will be the millions of people he inspired, the lives he changed, and the culture he defined. Steve was such an 'original,' with a thoroughly creative, imaginative mind that defined an era. Despite all he accomplished, it feels like he was just getting started.
