Cartoonist Pran, Creator of Chacha Chaudhary passes away

Cartoonists Pran Kumar Sharma, Cartoonist Pran, Creator of Chacha Chaudhary, sabu and other character died on Wednesday. Pran was the man behind the famous comic series Chacha Chaudhury. His others famous characters included cartoons like Sabu, Shrimatiji, Pinki, Billoo, Raman, Channie Chachi and many more. Pran succumbed to cancer early on Wednesday morning at a hospital in Gurgaon, according to his publisher Diamond Comics. He was 75. "Pran passed away at 9 AM at the Medanta hospital. He had been suffering from cancer of the intestine for the past eight months. He is survived by a son and a daughter," Gulshan Rai, Publisher, Diamond Comics, said. Born in Kasur, near Lahore in Pakistan in 1938, Pran began his career in 1960 as a cartoonist for the Delhi-based newspaper Milap with comic strip Daabu In 1969, Pran sketched Chacha Chaudhary for the Hindi magazine Lotpot, which made him famous. 
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to express his grief over the passing away of the cartoonist. Comic book character Chacha Chaudhary's creator Pran Kumar Sharma was a "versatile cartoonist who brought smiles on the faces of people", Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday, expressing grief at his demise. "PM described Pran Kumar Sharma as a versatile cartoonist who brought smiles on the faces of people through his rich work," the official Twitter handle of the PMO said.

All India Kisan Sabha to launch hunger strike in September 2014

All India Kisan Sabha will hold a three-day hunger strike on 1st to 3rd September 2014 on a charter of its demands including pension and implementation of National Commission on farmers. Addressing a press conference at Jaipur, General Secretary of AIKS, Atul Kumar Anjaan today said AIKS members and leaders would hold sit-ins, relay hunger strike and demonstration in all district headquarters for 72 hours from September 1 to 3, 2014. A monthly Kisan pension of Rs 3000 should be paid to all farmers, agriculture workers, artisan men and women from 60 years of age, he demanded.
The recommendation of National Commission on Farmers (NCF) proposed by Dr Swaminathan should be implemented, and the 'Minimum Support Price' of crops should not be computed on whole sale index rather it should be considered on retail prices, he added. Anjaan demanded that there should be no dilution in Land Acquisition Act, 2013 to protect the interests of corporate and the builder lobbies, adding that any change will severely affect the farmers' interest. AIKS will organise state level conventions and stage court arrests next month to highlight the farmers' issue in consultation with different farmers' organisations, he said. AIKS will also hold an extensive campaign for membership from September to November, he said adding that it will go for 'Jail Bharo' if their demands were not met.

Kishore Kumar Google Doodle on 85th Birthday

Kishore Kumar, born as Abhas Kumar Ganguly on August 4, 1929, is considered a legend in Hindi Cinema due to his above mentioned talents. Kumar was introduced to Hindi Cinema at an early age by his elder brother Ashok Kumar who had already made his mark as an actor. He made his debut in Bollywood as a singer in the movie Bombay Talkies, which starred his own brother Ashok in the lead role.
Kishore Kumar is most popularly known for his roles in Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi and Padosan. His first film was Shikari where he acted opposite his brother Ashok Kumar. Some of his evergreen songs include gems like Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke, Phoolon Ke Rang Se, Yeh Raatein Yeh Mausam etc. The legendary singer passed away on October 13, 1987.

Sushil Kumar, Amit Kumar, Vinesh Phogat wins Gold for India

On 6th day of Commonwealth Games i.e. 29th July, 2014, India won 10 medals (3 Gold, 3 Silver an 4 Bronze). Star grappler Sushil Kumar led India's sparkling show in the wrestling arena as the country claimed three gold medals on the first day of the wrestling competitions at the Commonwealth Games at Glasgow on Tuesday.Sushil expectedly bagged gold in men's 75kg freestyle category while Amit Kumar won the yellow metal in men's 57kg while Vinesh Phogat finished on top in women's 48kg at the SECC Hall.
Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar, who just took 107 minutes to clinch the gold medal in the men's 74kg freestyle category beating Pakistan's Qamar Abbas in a one-sided affair. It was Sushil's first major international medal after his pet 66kg category was removed and he had to add nine kilograms to adjust in a new weight bracket. Sushil had won both his Olympic medals, bronze in Beijing and silver in London, 2010 World Championship gold, 2010 Asian Games gold and the 2010 Commonwealth Games gold in the 66kg category. Sushil was leading 6-2 in the first period when referee V. Keelan decided to give it in favour of the Indian, who managed to pin down Abbas.  Amit Kumar gets the gold medal in the men's FS 57kg. He beat Nigeria's E Welson 6-2. Kumar took the early lead and went up 4-0 before the Nigerian got back 2 points. But the Indian was too quick, got another two points and clinched the gold medal. Vinesh Phogat clinched the 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medal in the women's freestyle 48kg wrestling competition with a thrilling win over England's Yana Rattigan on Tuesday

Teej Festival 2014 at Jaipur on 30th, 31st July 2014

Hariyali Teej  or Sawan Teej or Teej Festival 2014 is celebrated in Jaipur on 30-31st July 2014. Hariyali Teej is a festival celebrated in the north Indian states of India mainly Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana. This festival is celebrated on the third day of Shukla paksha in the Shravan month. It is also known as Madhusrava tritiya and Choti Teej.  Hariyali Teej is also known as Chhoti Teej and Shravana Teej. Kajari Teej which comes fifteen days after Hariyali Teej is known as Badi Teej.
Hariyali Teej History: According to legend Goddess Parvathi was reborn and did several years of stringent fasting to prove her dedication to Lord Shiva. After hundred years of strict fasting and austerity lord Shiva accepted her as his wife. It is said that whosoever invokes and worship Gowri known as teej mata on this day, will get divine blessings of Mother.  Married women and young girls celebrate the festival with great zeal and earnest devotion. On this day married women return to their parents’ home and receive gifts from their in laws which is called "Shinjhara’ which includes clothes, ornaments, beauty products, mehndi, sweets etc. Both married and unmarried women dress up in traditional green attires and wear ornaments and green bangles made of glass. Is also a common custom to apply mehandi or Alta on the hands and feet. Women and unmarried girls keep fast for long and healthy life of their husband.
