Accidendtly Bomb dropped near Indira Gandhi Canal, Accident avoided

In the third such instance this year, an Indian Air Force fighter plane managed to drop a bomb on Indian territory, this time miraculously missing the Indira Gandhi Canal that is a lifeline for millions in western Rajasthan and Punjab. A Mirage-2000 aircraft that took off from Gwalior on a routine exercise, mistimed an operation and dropped a 100-pound bomb 12 km from Mohangarh town in Jaisalmer district on Monday night. It was sheer chance that the bomb exploded some 100 feet from the Indira Gandhi Canal. Though the boundary of the canal was damaged, a large chunk of the canal could have breached had the projectile fallen a little closer, flooding nearby towns. A 100-pound bomb can cause damage to life and property up to 200 feet from the spot of explosion.
Confirming the incident, spokesman for the South-Western Air Command Group Captain Manoj Mehta said, “The aircraft had taken off from Gwalior as part of a routine exercise on Monday evening and was to drop the bomb at a target in Chandhan Range, 25 km away from the place where the bomb actually fell.’’ The Pakistan border is 60 km from Mohangarh town. Two other small villages, Hasam Ki Dhani and Hameed Nada, are barely 1 km from the site of the explosion.
The bomb created a 25-feet-wide crater and over 80 trees were burnt.

No RAS Main 2007 Cut-off release till now, Candidates worried

RAS 2007 mains result is declared and this time candidates are looking for RAS Cutoff Marks but, till now RPSC didn't declare any category wise cut-off. For more than 2,500 candidates whose result of Rajasthan Administrative Services (RAS-2007) was declared by the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC), Ajmer. There is no merit of order given by the commission to clarify which candidate has been selected for the services. The commission has also not declared the cut-off marks for the reserved categories. For the first time in the history of RPSC categories of candidates have not been given and the matter has now been sent to the department of personnel (DOP) of the state government to decide eligibility for different posts in RAS.
The results have given a jolt to RAS coaching centres and employees of commission. Till now the commission had released RAS results with separate merit list of SCs, STs, general, handicapped and others reserved quota. This made it easy for candidates to know cut-off marks for each category. However, this time it is different.

Sachin Tendulkar's 44th ODI century and Harbhajan Singh's five-wicket haul scripted India's tri-series triumph as the visitors raised their game when it mattered most and cruised to a 46-run win in the final cricket match against Sri Lanka in Colombo on Monday night. Thumped by 139 runs in their Saturday's meeting which cost them world number one ODI team's tag, India first amassed 319 for five and then shot out Sri Lanka for 273 in 46.4 overs to settle score. Chasing a mammoth 320-run target, Sri Lanka got the perfect start from Tillakaratne Dilshan (42 off 29 balls) and Sanath Jayasuriya (36) before running out of steam. Down the order, the 70-run stand between Thilina Kandamby (66) Chamara Kapugedera (35) was a mere act of defiance and not enough to turn the match on its head.

Harbhajan Singh (5/56) was the wrecker-in-chief even though he missed a hat-trick chance. Earlier, the Indian top order fired in unison and Tendulkar's majestic 133-ball 138 lifted them to a massive 319 for five wickets after Mahendra Singh Dhoni had won an important toss and elected to bat. The target was tough but Sri Lanka looked game for a fight with Dilshan going after Ishant Sharma. Dilshan greeted Ishant with back-to-back fours in his first over and then went on a rampage. Possible Attacks across India in Festival season - US

The United States has said there is a possibility of terrorist attacks across India as the country enters into the festival season of Eid, Dusshera and Diwali this month. In a travel alert issued to its citizens travelling to India, the US State Department yesterday advised its nationals to be cautious and maintain a low profile during their visit to the country in this period. "The Department of State reminds US citizens of the continued possibility of terrorist attacks throughout India during the current Indian holiday season, which includes Hindu, Islamic and secular holidays as well as the period surrounding the commemoration of the September 11 terror attacks," it said. Referring to the November 2008 attacks in Mumbai, in which few US nationals were also killed, the statement said it provided a vivid reminder that hotels and other public places are especially attractive targets for terrorist groups.

Two die in factory explosion at Jaipur

Two persons died and three injured in an explosion at a scrap factory in Jaipur's Vishwakarma Industrial Area on Sunday afternoon. The injured were rushed to the Sawai Mansingh Hospital for immediate medical attention. According to the police, the explosion occurred around 3.30 p.m. when workers were trying to remove iron from a live-shell. The explosion occurred during hammering. According the expert of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team, which also reached at the spot, the intensity of blast was very high. It could not be ascertained, where the live-shell had come from; whether it was disposed off shell of the Army or arrived at some imported scrap.

Leander Paes wins US Open men's doubles 2009

Leander Paes won the battle of Indians as well as his 10th Grand Slam title after defeating old pal Mahesh Bhupathi and Mark Knowles in the US Open men's doubles final along with his partner Luaks Dlouhy. Fourth seeds Paes and Czech Dlouhy scripted a sensational 3-6 6-3 6-2 win in the championship match over third seeds Bhupathi and his Bahamian partner. The match was heading for a straight-set wash out for Bhupathi and Knowles but Paes enlivened the match with his inspiring play and changed the complexion of the game.
His sparkling play infused life into the match and Dlouhy complemented him well to emerge winners after a confidence shaking first set lapse. For Paes it is his fifth men's doubles Grand Slam crown, 41st overall, and second with Dlouhy.
