Rajasthan woman again branded as 'witch', tortured

Once again woman in rajasthan is branded witch and tortured. The practice of branding women as witches and torturing them continues unabated in rural Rajasthan even though the state government is coming up with a stringent law – the Rajasthan Women (Prevention and Protection from Atrocities) Bill, 2011. A 35-year old woman was allegedly branded a "witch" by her family members and tortured by a "tantrik" in Pali district of Rajasthan, police said. "The victim Narangi Bai's husband and others said she was a 'dayan' and took her to the tantrik Usha Meena. The tantrik said that the woman possessed an evil spirit and in the name of scaring the 'evil spirit', she tortured Narangi Bai with hot iron rod," SHO Kotwali, Omprakash, said today. The incident was reported to police by locals following which the woman was rescued and hospitalised and her condition is now stabled after treatment, he said. Chunni Lal, the woman's husband, his brother Pukhraj and his wife Manju and the lady tantrik Usha were arrested and the matter was being probed, he added.
Earlier, in the last week of May, a 30-year-old woman was also branded a witch and tortured in Padardi Mewada village of Dungarpur district. In the last week of July, a 35-year-old woman alleged that she was branded a witch by villagers, tortured and was being forced to leave her village, again in Dungarpur district. So now what is state government, Police and Girija vyas doing in state, when such incidents are happening again and again.

Rajasthan PCC Chandrabhan join 40th Anniversary of NSUI

Rajasthan PCC chief Chandrabhan slam BJP president Nitin Gadkari on Friday, comparing him to a local Block-level leader and asking him to mind his language at public forums. Speaking during the district convention of NSUI, the PCC chief advised Gadkari to use decent language at public platforms. While addressing the gathering of students and NSUI leaders at BM Birla Auditorium, he said that the Congress party had taken the initiative to fight against corruption in the country. Congress president Chandrabhan on Friday said the party would ask its ministers, parliamentarians and legislators to extend their ‘wholehearted’ support, including financial, to the NSUI candidates in their respective constituencies.
The party president advised the Congress student wing to field candidates with impeccable image and conduct in the coming students’ union elections in Rajasthan. The polls are due on August 20, the birth anniversary of late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. “If the NSUI wins on his birth anniversary, it will be a real tribute to Rajiv Gandhi since he lowered the voting age to 18 years,” Chandrabhan said. In the last students’ union elections, the NSUI had a clean sweep at Jodhpur’s Jai Narayan Vyas University and won the president’s post at Ajmer’s Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University but performed shabbily at the Rajasthan University, Jaipur. The Congress president urged the state’s youth to actively participate in politics. The event was attended by NSUI national secretary Deepika Saraswat, who had to face hooting and whistling by the unruly supporters of some students’ leaders keen on seeking the organisation’s ticket in the coming elections. To exhibit their strength as leaders, the aspiring candidates made their supporters wear T-shirts with the leaders’ names. NSUI was conceived in 1971 by former Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi and then was formally constituted on 9 April 1971. The organization traces its origin to the Indian independence movement spearheaded by Indian National Congress.

Now Block ATM Card by SMS for any Bank

Reserve Bank of India(RBI) propose a new Common Toll free Number to Block ATM Card by SMS block for any all Bank in India. RBI has proposed several measures including introduction of a system under which a person would be able to block his stolen ATM card through a SMS. These form part of the recommendations of the Committee on Customer Service in Banks, constituted under chairmanship of former SEBI chairman M. Damodaran, by RBI last year.
In its report, the Damodaran committee proposed “instant blocking of ATM card through SMS-block for lost/misused cards.” It is expected to help people who currently are required to call up the bank in case of card loss. “If an ATM card has been misused by another person, on receipt of SMS about use of the card, the customer should be able to immediately send return SMS to block the card with a single word like ‘BLOCK’ to prevent further withdrawals. The committee also suggested creation of a single common toll free call number for customer services for all banks. “The Indian Banking Association (IBA) should consider a toll free Common Call Center number for all banks. A customer would ring that number and thereafter get diverted to the bank concerned,” it added. Hope this new facility will be implemented soon in India and customer will get a relief as at present customer have to suffer a lot for blocking the lost ATM/Debit card.
