BIG TV is reportedly looking for an excuse to exit the second edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to lack of funds. IPL is Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) Twenty20 tournament in India. However, in his response IPL Chairman and Commissioner Lalit Modi has down played media reports of sponsors and partners thinking of pulling out of the IPL. Modi made it clear at press conference in Mumbai on Friday (20th February) that, all the sponsors and partners of the IPL are still on board. He also said that, they have all paid as per the schedule. In fact, a lot of other sponsors have approached the organizing committee and are willing to pay even more than what the existing ones are paying, Modi added.
According to sources, IPL's prospects are being hampered by Set Max's limited reach to Hindi speaking market. Some media report even says that Set Max is not doing enough to monetize IPL during non-IPL season. On the other hand Sony is expected to give a plan of action on year-round plan to strengthen and monetize IPL franchisee
