In yet another political violence, a local BJP leader was shot dead by unidentified assailants at Sangod in Kota district on monday.
The incident triggered violent protests by his supporters who manhandled the additional district magistrate (ADM) and forcibly closed markets in three nearby towns – Sangod, Kaithoon and Bapawar. The angry supporters pelted stones at the mortuary of a government hospital in Sangod where post-mortem of the victim was to be conducted and clashed with police who used batons and tear gas to disperse them. The mob damaged many vehicles of senior police and administration officials and pelted stones at them. The ADM and a senior police officer were injured in the clash.
According to police, Laxminaryan Nagar, general secretary, Sangod Dehat BJP mandal, was shot dead by some unidentified persons on Monday. His body was recovered from his farm in Melkhedi village where he had gone for supervision of farming work. He was shot by a country-made gun. “Some villagers had gone to the farm on Monday evening where they found the body. The villagers informed the police. There was bullet mark on his forehead and pellets were lodged in his back,” said a senior police officer.
