Delhi also gets a Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER)

After Chandigarh, Delhi also gets a Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER). The institute set up at Ram Mahonar Lohia Hospital will be inaugurated by Union health minister Dr Anbumani on Wednesday.
Said M S Chaturvedi, superintendent of RML: ‘‘PGIMER, Delhi was conceptualized in 2002 to address the shortage of postgraduate students in Delhi. RML has infrastructure, required clinical material as well as land. So government decided to set up the institute here. Fifty per cent of the seats will be reserved for Delhi students. The institute will be affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University.’’
To be increased to 69 seats, the institute offers 35 seats in the 2008-09 academic session. Rest of the 34 seats will be filled up by the next academic session.
