Mohan Bhagwat will be New RSS Chief

Shri Mohan Bhagwat on 21st March 2009,Saturday elected as the new chief of RSS and is expected to redefine relations with BJP at a time when the saffron party is trying hard to come back to power at the Centre. He replaces KS Sudarshan who steps down after being at the helm of the Sangh Parivar founthead for nearly nine years when there were ups and downs in its ties with BJP during Atal Bihari Vajpayee's term as prime minister of the NDA government. 59-year-old Bhagwat, who has good relations with the BJP leadership including LK Advani, was replaced as general secretary by veteran ideologue Suresh Soni. Soni used to be in the BJP hierarchy a few years ago as a joint general secretary.
About Shri Mohan Bhagwat:
Shri Mohan ji Bhagwat hails from a small town called Chandrpur in Maharashtra. A veterinary doctor by education, Mohanji dedicated himself completely for the service of society and became a pracharak (full time volunteer) of RSS. Shri Mohanji held various responsibilities in Sangh as a district pracharak for Akola, provincial pracharak for Nagpur, zonal Pracharak for Bihar and subsequently he became the Sar karyawah, the constitutional head of RSS. Since more than three years he is at this position and has been re-elected for next three year term recently. A prolific speaker, thinker, and a pleasant person, Shri Mohanji has inspired hundreds of youths to dedicate themselves for Sangh and work for the Hindu society selflessly. Shri Mohanji has traveled extensively abroad to UK, S.Africa, Mauritius, Kenya and Netherlands and in India visiting every state at least twice a year. He is visiting US for the first time on the occasion of birth centenary of Param Poojaniya Shri Guruji Golwalkar.
Bhagwat and BJP:
The retirement of 78 year old Sudershan and Bhagwat taking over the Sangh reins is expected to have a telling effect on the BJP also. While Sudershan and Soni were seen to be against BJP Prime Ministerial candidate L.K. Advani, Bhagwat is a supporter of Advani. In fact, Advani was an apprentice under Bhagwat's father when he was a Pracharak in Gujarat after crossing over from Pakistan after parition.
