Rajasthan’s Commercial Taxes Department (CTD) has collected a whopping Rs.2,362 crore by this February through e-payment. The amount, which is 38 per cent of the State’s total Sales Tax revenue, is said to be the highest collection made in the country through e-payment.
The CTD could pull off this feat with 4,053 transactions through branches of just two authorised banks, the State Bank of India and the State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur, it is pointed out. Not that everyone who used the electronic route to remit taxes was a crore-pati. One of the regular dealers paying taxes through the e-payment gateway is Bikaner’s “Vinod Paan Bhandar”. In fact, the country’s first ever e-registration of a business firm too was made in a small town in Rajasthan, Padampur in Sriganganagar district, by one Ajay Kumar this February.
