"I believe in non-violence" - Varun Gandhi

BJP Leader Varun Gandhi on Wednesday filed his nomination from Pilibhit Lok Sabha constituency vowing not to hit anyone irrespective of his religion. Chastened after his controversial speeches that landed him in jail and a direction from Supreme Court to maintain restraint, 29-year-old Varun filed his nomination without any fanfare, contrary to the throngs of saffron activists that accompanied him when he surrendered before a court last month that had led to largescale violence.
Accompanied by his mother, the sitting MP from this constituency, Varun later addressed an election meeting saying, “this hand will raise only for defence to protect people not to hit anyone irrespective of whichever religion he belongs to.” “I believe in non-violence. In my whole life I have not killed even a mosquito, let alone human beings,” Gandhi said in his speech. He also alleged that he was humiliated and tortured when he was in jail. “Only I know the humiliation and torture that was meted out to me when I went to the jail... I was denied a mattress to sleep on. I was kept in a barrack where there were even patients of tuberculosis. I was put in isolation so that I get drowned in loneliness,” he said.
