Amitabh Bachchan denies Phd honour from Queensland University Australia

Upset with the recent racial attacks on Indian students studying in Australia, Bollywood superstar, Amitabh Bachchan, has refused to receive an Australian doctorate. The doctorate has been offered by The Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, in recognition of his contribution to the world of entertainment. Amitabh is only the second person from India, after IT leader Narayan Murthy, to be chosen for such an honour from QUT. The doctorate was to be conferred in time to coincide with a retrospective of his films in the city of Queensland in July.
In a statement on his blog, Mr. Bachchan said :
"I have been witnessing, with great dismay and shock, the recent violent attacks on Indian students in Australia, on the electronic media the entire day. I mean no disrespect to the institution that honours me, but under the present circumstances, where citizens of my own country are subjected to such acts of inhuman horror, my conscience does not permit me to accept this decoration from a country that perpetrates such indignity to my fellow countrymen."
From my opinion as an Indian "I personally think that this is a good thing from Big B but, Indian public should also take note from such incidents. QUT is first ranked University in Australia but in world ranking it is behind IITs and IIMs, So this is time when we have to change our thinking and instead of running behind Developed nations, why not we at least try to make our own nation better. If you are in other country then you are second citizen and you can't change it, so better think about it.

  2. Not to accept would be a violent and undemocratic reaction. Such horrific things do happen in many parts of India as well all over world including this country (USA) but it doesn’t call for non-productive and extream reactions/actions. Matter of fact it is called for dialogue and greater co-operation. If U really want to address your concern then U will have a plateform and place to do that. Yes, while accepting it U surely could mention it and that would be productive. When it happens in some state of India (Including your Mumbai) against their own citizens no one reacts in this way or rather reacts at all! Pl show your concern in positive and constructive way.
