It is one year, when Rajasthan, a calm state burn up with caste based clash for reservation. between Gurjar and Meena Community. Gurjar leader Col Kirori Singh Bainsla was talking today to the media after a memorial function in Sikandra in memory of the people killed during Gujjar agitation last year. Bainsla said a memorial for the 25 Gujjars including four people killed in Lalsot would be constructed near the old police station in Sikandra which was burnt down during the agitation. He added that welfare programmes for the victims’ families are also being chalked out. He Said, “Gujjars will decide the future course of action on their original demand for reservation under the ST quota at a large Gujjar panchayat to be held on June 10. They are seeing an opportunity next year when the Central government will review the reservation given to the STs when the 10-year extension expires.” Meanwhile, Bainsla demanded that the special reservation of 5% agreed by the previous government be implemented in the state.
Current Status of Gurjar Reservation:
The bill titled the Rajasthan Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Class (OBC), Special Backward Classes, and Economically Backward Classes, 2008 was, however, pending with the governor since then. The governor had refused to entertain the pleas by the BJP government saying that the bill exceeded 50 % ceiling of reservation by the Supreme Court.
Now Government need to take extra care about the 10th June's Panchayat by Gurjar Community, so that any mis-happening can be avoided within the time, instead of creating mishap like May-June 2008 Gurjar-Meena Clash.
