Rajasthan Royals score IPL II Highest score, defeated Punjab by 78 runs

Rajasthan Royals crushes XI Punjab by 78 runs in the first match of the Indian Premier League. Chasing 212 runs to win, Kings XI Punjab got off to poor start and Sunny Sohal was out on the first ball. Karan Goyal too departed in the first over. Katich, Sangakkara and Jayawardene also flopped and Punjab lost 5 wickets at 39. Skipper Yuvraj Singh and Irfan Pathan showed some resistance and added 48 runs for 6th wicket but it was not enough. Yuvraj was the top scorer for Punjab with 48 runs while Irfan contributed 19. Punjab could score 133 runs at the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs.
Punjab won the toss and elected to bowl, a decision that proved to be costly as Graeme Smith and Naman Ojha added record 135 runs for 1st wicket. Both completed brilliant half-centuries in their own style. Rajasthan Royals scored 211 runs at the loss of 4 wickets in 20 overs, the highest score of IPL season two so far.
