Former Rajasthan CM and Assam Governor Shiv Charan Mathur died of cardiac arrest at New Delhi on Thursday night, Mathur assumed charge as Governor of Assam on 4th July 2008. Mathur, 83, was undergoing treatment at the Escorts Heart Institute in New Delhi for the past seven days. He was discharged on Thursday morning but he complained of uneasiness in the evening. "He was shifted to the Fortis Hospital here where he breathed his last at 8.15 pm," Assam's Resident Commissioner Devender Kumar said. Mathur, who assumed charge as governor of Assam on 4th July 2008, is survived by his wife. He was chief minister of Rajasthan twice 1981-85 and 1988-89.Mathur was twice elected to the Lok Sabha (1962 and 1991) from Bhilwara constituency while he was MLA for six terms. He was first elected to the Rajasthan assembly in 1967. Before becoming the chief minister, Mathur was a state minister in the governments headed by Mohanlal Sukharia and Hardev Joshi.
