NCP Leader Padam Singh Patil arrested by CBI

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today arrested the senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and sitting Member of Parliament (MP) from Osmanabad district of Maharashtra in connection with murder of congress leader Pavan Raje Nimbalkar. "Patil has been booked under section 302 (murder) and section 120 B (criminal conspiracy). He has been remanded to our custody till June 14," said CBI counsel Ijaz Khan.
The Mumbai Crime Branch has already arrested two people Paras Jain and Dinesh Tiwari who have reportedly confessed to killing congress leader Nimbalkar. The Crime Branch had earlier claimed that 47-year-old Jain, resident of Mumbai, and Tiwari (37) a native of Gorakhpur in Uttar Prdesh, were paid Rs 30 lakhs to kill the congress leader. The two were arrested by the Crime Branch in February this year. Nimbalkar and his driver were shot dead in a car on June 3, 2006 at Kalamboli in Navi Mumbai near here. The Kalamboli police did preliminary investigation and Bombay High Court in October 2008 transferred the case to the CBI. The two suspects are believed to have given statement to the CBI that Padam Singh Patil had given the Supari (contract) to kill congress leader following which the CBI has arrested NCP leader from Mumbai today.

  1. Please correct the line "The CBI took custody of Pavan Raje when he visited Mumbai for some official work this evening, according to CBI sources here today. " as Pavan Raje is already dead and he cannot be taken into the custody.
