Entrance test introduced for PhD at Rajasthan University

Rajasthan University will conduct an entrance test to those seeking admission to PhD programmes from the next academic session as per the meeting of the academic council on Saturday. "The initiative would increase the quality of research," said Bhupendra Shekhawat, spokesperson, RU. The entrance test will be conducted by the concerned department to judge the candidate's knowledge on the subject. Admission will be on the basis of the marks secured in the test, he said. To maintain transparency in the system, every department have to publish the number of seats on the university's website. Seats will be allotted to the candidates on the basis of the merit.
The decision was taken after the University Grants Commission directed all universities to introduce entrance test for research scholars. It has also been made compulsory for the scholars to upload their thesis on the university website along with the links to the published journals. The new system would remove the irregularities in the research programmes. "Often professors conceal the actual number of seats so that they can accommodate their own candidates. This will not happen in future," said an official.
