Swine flu claimed four more lives in the state on Wednesday, taking the death toll to 143. Among the dead were a 78-year-old man from Jaipur, a two-year-old boy, a woman from Jodhpur and another woman from Pali. According to the health department, till date 3,016 people have tested positive for the disease in the state. Jodhpur district with 38 H1N1 deaths has reported the maximum number of casualties, followed by Jaipur with 21 deaths. Officials admit that the high mortality rates in districts of Nagaur, Ajmer, Barmer and Jaisalmer districts have also been a cause of concern.
Health officials maintained that the reason of high mortality remains late diagnosis of the disease, especially in the remote areas. The health department has now ordered to sensitise all private medical practitioners in the state regarding swine flu. “The private clinics and hospitals will be provided information about categorisation of the swine flu suspects and will be instructed to refer all suspected H1N1 patients to the nearest screening centres,” a senior health official said.
