Rahul Dravid, who made centuries in the previous two Tests, missed the opportunity to complete his hat-trick when he was caught behind off Chanaka Welegedara to be caught behind for 74, inclusive of five boundaries and a six in his 147-ball knock.
At lunch on the third day, India reached 535 for three in 108 overs, a lead of 142 runs, after Sri Lanka were dismissed for 393 in their first innings in the morning. Sehwag stole the show on the second day as he registered his sixth double century in Test cricket, his second double against Sri Lanka after the 201 not out he scored in Galle last year. He single-handedly dominated the second day and was involved in two successive double century partnerships for the first and second wickets.
