Rajasthan will be new home for BrahMos Missiles

Supersonic cruise missile BrahMos will now be assembled near Pilani in Jhunjhunu district of the state. The state has given 80 hectares near Pilani for the project. Chief controller, research, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), ministry of defence, T S Pillai met chief minister Ahok Gehlot on Friday and thanked him for the plot. The chief minister assured Pillai that the infrastructural work in the area would begin soon. According to Pillai, the project would be set up at a cost of Rs 200 crore and about 150 specialists would be recruited. He assured Gehlot that locals would be given preference during recruitment.
Till now the BrahMos missiles were being assembled in Hyderabad. But the DRDO approached the state government requesting it for grant of land near Pilani. Pillai presented a model of the missile to Gehlot and said the missile is amongst the fastest in the world. The missile travels at a speed three times that of sound. Also present on the occasion were principal secretary, CMO, Shrimat Pandey and principal secretary, revenue, Ashok Sampatram.
