Rajasthan Govt hike Liquor shop license fee

Rajasthan Govt hike Liquor shop license fee around 5-20% as per new excise policy of year 2010-11. As Liquor shops are one of main revenue shource for rajasthan govt in last 6 year after dramatically increasing liquor shop in state by BJP Government during vasundhara raje. so finally gehlot govt is putting some brake over that policy.
From April 2010, Liquor shop owner will be charged an additional 20% over the existing annual licence fee. They will also have to fork out an extra 10% in renewal fees. The government will not allot new licenses in 2010-11. The higher fees are expected to net an addition Rs 2,400 crore in revenues. However, the cabinet has not changed the system in Dungarpur and Banswara district while the retail on hotel, bar clubs or restaurants also remains unaltered. In order to control illicit liquor manufacturing, the government has decided to make special development projects to create alternative employment sources for the rehabilitation of people engaged in this business. Hope this move will increase revenue in state and also reduce the liquor consumption.

  1. Looks like the new government's anti liquor drive is only to undo what the previous govt. did. What is the point in restricting liquor licenses and making it more difficult. Rajasthan earns a substantial share from foreign tourists earnings. By setting up so many restrictions on easy availability of liquor, they send wrong signals. Liquor is a social habit the world over, by being difficult we are only restricting our global perspective.
