Massive rescue operations are underway in the flash floods ravaged Leh town while 24 hour helpline numbers 09906990787 and 09906990835 set to provide any information about the incident. Thirty three columns of Army personnel have been deployed for the rescue operations. Army spokesman Colonel J S Brar said that rescue operations which had slowed down due to heavy rains have picked up again. "Two commercial planes have landed...A relief plane is about to reach," he said. Police, Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBP) and civil administration are collectively involved in the rescue operation. "Police and ITBP have established camps in the affected area. Civil administration is helping to its maximum," Brar said. "Among the injured, 300 have been treated...The other injured are treated in army hospital. The 31 Army jawans missing haven't still been located. We found a body," he said.
An IL-76, Indian Air Force's largest transport aircraft, landed at Leh on Saturday in its second attempt with relief materials, as the toll in the cloudburst mounted to 130. The aircraft along with four AN-32 aircrafts had left for Leh from Chandigarh on Saturday morning, but had to return here due to bad weather conditions. Another IAF aircraft from Delhi had also proceeded to Leh, but had to return here due to bad weather conditions.
