No new tax on Jaipur Metro rail project: Home Minister

Rajasthan Home and Urban Development Minister Shanti Kumar Dhariwal today clarified that the state government would not levy any new tax on common man for implementing the Jaipur Metro Rail project or the Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS) in the state capital town here. Talking to reporters at the Congress state headquarters here Mr Dhariwal said, ''Jaipur metro rail project will not put any burden on the common man's pocket, only a few rich tax payers would be charged.'' He said the Opposition BJP was making false propaganda in this regard but this should be clear that the state government was not contemplating any move to tax common man for the metro rail or the BRTS projects.
He also reiterated that the first phase of the Rs 10,000 crore ambitious project would begin on November 1 and be completed by July 2013. He said services of low floor buses--presently running in Jaipur--would also be extended into other towns like Jodhpur, Kota and Ajmer.
