New beginning in India China relationship - Wen Jiabao

The Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao today pleaded for turning over the page and starts a fresh chapter of cooperation in India China relations. He observed that media can play an important role in this direction and called upon the media from the two countries not to sensationalize the issues .This he said will help in removing misunderstandings. Responding to the points made by the Cultural icons and journalists from the two countries in New Delhi before leaving for Pakistan, he admitted that there was a bad patch in the bilateral relationship besides some misunderstandings. On the boundary question Wen Jiabao said it will have to be dealt with patience as building trust and confidence is essential. People to people contact and cultural exchanges can play an important role in this regard. He added that the two countries will have to be good neighbors to pave the way for greater engagement. He reiterated that China and India are partners and not competitors and announced a million dollar aid for Nalanda University in Bihar. The university has served a bridge between India and China for a long time.
Speaking at the function to mark the conclusion of 60 years of establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries last evening, the Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh said that India and China will march together as friends and not as rivals. Dr. Singh asserted this century belongs to Asia and that there is enough scope for the two countries to grow and fulfil development aspirations of the people. Expressing satisfaction over his talks with Chinese Premier, Dr. Singh appreciated his role in advocating the need to strengthen strategic partnership between the two countries. The Chinese Prime Minster also called for bridging the information gap between the two countries. He has left for Islamabad after the visit.
