To control prices of onion, the Rajasthan government has decided to distribute the vegetable at wholesale rates through 1,100 distribution centres across the state. The decision to import onion was also taken in a high level review meeting chaired by the state civil and food supply minister Babu Lal Naagar. The minister said that a committee headed by Principal Secretary Food would monitor purchasing and distribution of onion at the state level, and a control room will be set up to monitor the process.
"We have decided to make onion available on reasonable price at 1,100 centers including 650 PDS shops and 300 dairy booths and consumer centers across the state. Onion will be made available to public on wholesale rate through these centers and a team will be dispatched to Nasik and Bhavnagar to purchase onion soon," Naagar said. Cooperation of traders will also be sought in controlling the price, he added.
