Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee's son Abhijit Mukherjee joined the Congress party in Kolkata. Abhijit, who was earlier employed with state owned Steel Authority of India Limited, said he has gained sufficient experience to take the plunge into politics. The veteran politician's son is expected to contest the upcoming assembly polls in the state. According to media reports, Abhijit would be the party's candidate from any of the constituencies in Birbhum district.
Invoking All-India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Rahul Gandhi's catchphrase, Mr. Abhijit insisted he was “a soldier of the Congress,” and would contest the elections “only if the party wills it.” For the time being, he would be concentrating on the issues of people in Birbhum.
