Gwalior court has directed the three daughters and grandson of former BJP MP late Vijayaraje Scindia to pay up a Rs 6.52 lakh telephone bill that's pending for more than a decade. The BSNL landline phone was used by Vijayaraje Scindia during her tenure in the Lok Sabha during the nineties. She died in January 2001 and the bill has remained unpaid. The court of district and sessions judge Lakshmi Sharma on Friday dismissed an appeal from the Scindia family and directed that the bill along with an additional interest of 12% be paid by daughters Usha Raje, former chief minister of Rajasthan Vasundhara Raje, BJP MP from Madhya Pradesh Yashodhara Raje and grandson Union minister of state Jyotiraditya Scindia. In September 2003, a PIL was filed in a Mumbai court about the non-payment of the bill. In 2006, the BSNL demanded payment and the family moved the Gwalior court against it. “The district and sessions court on Friday said since the daughters are the natural heirs, they should pay the bill,” BSNL lawyer Dilip Avasthi explained. “The grandson had been included because he is the son of late Madhavrao Scindia and therefore, another natural heir.”
