Ratan Tata on Ambani's House and Poor

Ratan Tata has described Reliance Industries chief Mukesh Ambani's 27-storey Mumbai home, Antilla , as an example of rich Indians' lack of empathy for the poor. "It makes me wonder why someone would do that. That's what revolutions are made of," Tata said in an interview to The Times, London, when asked about Ambani's house. The Times had asked Tata the question in the context of widening income inequalities in India. Tata also told The Times: "The person who lives in there should be concerned about what he sees around him and [asking] can he make a difference. If he is not, then it's sad because this country needs people to allocate some of their enormous wealth to finding ways of mitigating the hardship that people have."
Tata said the Ambani scion should try and make a difference to those around him. The comment is likely to make Mamata Banerjee think she has more in common with Ratan Tata than she'd like to admit. The Tata Group chief has taken the dig at Ambani's wealth in an interview to London's newspaper The Times. He said he was surprised and saddened by the fact that Ambani chose to live in an opulent billion dollar home in South Mumbai. This after he was asked about the Ambani's 27-storeyed Altamount Road residence. While Mukesh Ambani is ranked ninth on the Forbes List of Billionaires, Ratan Tata failed to find a mention.

  1. TATA sons is right. He know much better as he is among them as capitalist. In our country rich is becoming more rich and poor with no option and no body to hear. We need more TATA’s like who can make public understand what is the meaning of CAPATILISM. Is it to loot resources OR to make the life with better living standard for all. The world have crossed every obstacle about poverty but these in India the hell is happening. ANYWAY people are now realizing the truth after 1947. GOVT. OF INDIA should change the old model 1956 COMPANY ACT and make reservation policy in private so that greedy people can be side lined.

  3. The fact that Mukesh and Anil - the riches Indian brothers, who can afford the astronomical investments on their houses, were fighting for years to settle their claim to property is sad indeed.
