Probe report on Jodhpur maternity deaths Submitted

The administrative probe into serial deaths of 16 women post delivery after being administered contaminated fluids has submitted its report and put forth suggestions to prevent a recurrence of such incidents. The report submitted to Principal Secretary (Medical Edu) Mukesh Sharma comprises 133 pages and 2,238 annexures. Though, the report attributes contaminated I V fluids as the major cause of deaths in Umaid Hospital, it has also looked into other causes like inadequate staff and scanty resources.Some women reached the hospital in critical condition, says the report.
The report which has been submitted three months after the incident, also suggested a fund to pay compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the family of every woman who dies during or after delivery. The report also advocates stringent action and suspension of medical staff found guilty.
