Rajasthan to get 50% power from new RAPS units

The Centre has accepted Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's request of increasing the state's share in the power to be generated in the seventh and eighth 700MW new units being set up at the Rajasthan Atomic Power Station RAPS) in Rawatbhata. Chief Minister Mr Gehlot has recently written a letter to Union Energy Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde urging for increasing the state's share from the upcoming twin units, from prescribed 20 per cent to 50 per cent in view of difficult geographic and economic situation. In response to the Chief Minister's letter, Minister Mr Shinde had written to the former that his demand had been considered and the share was being raised to 50 per cent, an official spokesman said here today. Atomic Energy Commission Chairman SK Banerjee had launched the construction work for the 7th unit at Rawatbhata on July 18. The work for the eighth unit is expected to be launched later this year.
