Rajasthan University increases 10% Seats

University of Rajasthan (RU) has increased the intake capacity of students for 2011-12 year's academic session by 10 per cent, considering the demand for seats coupled with skyrocketing cut-off marks. The public relations cell of the university informed that the vice-chancellor has ordered increase of seats according to university rules. Public Relations Officer of Rajasthan University Bhupendra Singh Shekhawat said, "The VC has ordered to increase intake capacity by 10 per cent this year. VC has authority to increase seats as per rules if required.” However, the university had been increasing seats every year since the past few years. "Last year, the total number of seats was increased by 53 per cent with subsequent increments. However, the decision remained effective for one year only," said one of the officials in the V-C secretariat.

The college authorities believe that they may have to declare subsequent cut-off lists with increase in seats. During the past few years, the university had increased seats either by VC's authority or with syndicate's decision. Meanwhile, the colleges also declared the second list of admissions on Thursday. In Maharaja's College, the cut-off for BSc - general category came out with 78 per cent and it was 76.92 per cent for OBC category, while it was 70.31 per cent in Science, Biology for general category and 67.40 per cent for OBC category.
