Thieves took away a ATM machine, carrying Rs 10.5 lakh, of a ICICI Bank in Jaipur. The incident came to light this morning when the machine in the ATM cabinet was missing at New Aatish market here. The ATM belonged to ICICI bank, a police officers said. The robbers – the police suspect there were many because the ATM weighs close to 200kg – also tried to dismantle the second ATM unit, which had Rs 18 lakh stacked in it, but they failed in their attempt and had to flee from the spot.
They cut off power supply and the wires of alarm censors. Later they might have pulled off the machine using iron rods. They loaded it on a vehicle and fled from the scene," said BL Soni, commissioner of police. "The robbers were wearing helmets. Clues indicate that Mev gang, who are masters in vehicle-lifting, burglary and dacoity, could be behind it," said Lalit Kishore, assistant commissioner of police. "In an ATM, there are several mechanisms including alarm censors - both outside and inside the machine. It seems the burglars were familiar with the mechanism of the ATM especially how it works," the ACP added. The CCTV had recorded the footage of two masked burglars. They tried to lift a second ATM situated in the premises but failed. "There was another ATM containing a cash of around Rs 18 lakh. It was also found tampered," said ACP.
