Margaret Alva sworn in as Rajasthan Governor

Margaret Alva sworn in as Governor of Rajasthan today. She was the Governor of Uttarakhand before being appointed Governor of Rajasthan. Rajasthan High Court Chief Justice Arun Kumar Mishra administered the oath of office to Margaret Alwa at a simple function in Raj Bhawan. The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, cabinet ministers and other senior state bureaucrats. After this, she was given a guard of honour. Jaipur Mayor Jyoti Khandelwal and Deputy Leader of the Opposition Ghanshyam Tiwari were also present on the occasion. Punjab Governor Shivraj Patil had been holding the additional charge of Rajasthan since April, 2010, after the death of Prabha Rau.
About Margaret Alva: She was born on 14 April 1942 in Mangalore. Alva moved to Bangalore to pursue her studies. She graduated with a BA, B.L., Hon. Doctorate at Mount Carmel College Bangalore and University Law College, Bangalore (then known as Government Law College). She chose to start her professional career as an advocate. She was the Governor of Uttarakhand before being appointed Governor of Rajasthan. Alva became Uttarakhand's first woman governor in July 2009. She is a senior leader of the Indian National Congress and was the General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee.
