Pushkar Fair 2012 concluded with holy dip in Pushkar Sarovar

The famous Pushkar fair concluded at Holy City Pushkar on Wednesday with over one lakh devotees taking dips in the holy lake on the occasion of Kartik Poornima. Apart from taking dips at the lake amid chanting of 'mantras' early this morning, the devotees offered prayers, including at the Bhrahma Temple, and offered alms to needy people at Pushkar, 15km from Ajmer. Pigrims also offered ceremonial prayers/worship at the Brahma Mandir and several other temples built along the Pushkar ghats. A number of competitions/events and entertainment programmes were also organised in the five-day socio-religious annual event that attracts a large number of tourists from all over the world. This also marked conclusion of famous camel/cattle fair during which camels, horses, donkeys cows and bulls were traded to fetch an income of more than Rs eight crore to sellers/organisers. 
To mark the closing ceremony of the fair, several cultural performances were organised which were attended by Union Minister of State for Corporate Affairs Sachin Pilot, Naseem Akhtar and other local leaders. Various competitions, including camel race, horse race, tug of war were held for visitors, including foreigners, during the fair. The fair began on November 21. A cattle fair was also held in which thousands of cattle were brought for livestock trading.
