Gehlot distributes laptops, cheques to students

Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot inaugurated the function for the state level cheque distribution, laptops under the Rajiv Gandhi Vidyarthi Digital Scheme in Malviya Nagar. The five-day campaign was launched by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot in the presence of union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad. Under the Rajiv Gandhi student digital scheme, announced in the state budget session, class 8 toppers of government schools and those securing position in the merit list of top 10,000 in both 10th and 12th standard board exams will get laptops, while girl students taking admission in class 9 in government schools will be given cheque of Rs 2,500 to purchase bicycle. "Such schemes were launched to boost confidence among the students," Gehlot said. Around 56,000 students will be given cheques to purchase laptops, while four lakh girls will get cheques to buy cycles in the special campaign.
The Chief Minister had announced in the budget speech 2013-14 to provide Tablet-PC to 350,000 students in the State. He had also announced that in the second phase of the scheme, laptop of 14 inches will be provided to 110,000 students of the current and the last session.
