Rajasthan Budget 2010-11 on 22nd February

Rajasthan state budget session of the Assembly will begin on February 22. Governor Prabha Rao has summoned the fourth session of the 13th Rajasthan legislative assembly at 11.00 am on that day. Ashok Gehlot will present the second budget of his government during the session. A notification to this effect was issued by Rajasthan Vidhan Sabha Secretariat on Tuesday. This budget is expected to be for General public as Inflation is one of the challenge for the state as well as govt may provide some benefits to farmers and small business to boost economy in rajasthan.

Aamir's father passed away

Aamir Khan's father director producer-writer Tahir Hussain passed away this morning due to a cardiac arrest at Aamir's Bandra residence, in the suburban area of Mumbai. Tahir Hussain has produced some of the finest Hindi films like Caravan, Anamika and Hum Hai Rahi Pyar Ke. He has directed only one film called Tum Mere Ho, starring son Aamir and Juhi Chawla. Not many know that he had acted in a couple of films like Jab Pyar Kisise Hota Hai, and Pyar Ka Mausam.
Tahir Hussain started his film career in 1957 as an assistant director to his brother Nasir in films like Tumsa Nahin Dekha and Dil Deke Dekho. Tahir Hussain is survived by his wife Zeenat, sons Aamir and Faisal and daughters Farhat and Nikhat. Aamir is currently in Los Angeles while Aamir's nephew Imran Khan is in New Zealand.

Amar singh, Jayaprada and 4 MLA expelled from SP

Samajwadi Party(SP) today expelled Amar Singh and MP from Rampur Jayaprada from the party on grounds of indulging in anti-party activities and denting its socialist image. The decision was taken at the SP parliamentary board meeting chaired by party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav in Lucknow on Tuesday, national general secretary and spokesman Mohan Singh told reporters. He said the party also suspended membership of four MLAs - Madan Chauhan, Sandeep Agarwal, Ashok Chandel and Sarvesh Singh - all Amar Singh loyalists. "For over a month some leaders of the party have been continuously giving statements against the SP," Singh said.He said that on 31st January, Lok Sabha member Jaya Prada had held a press conference in which she made "indecent comments" against the SP leadership and spit venom against its policies. "Therefore, the parliamentary board has decided to expel Jaya Prada from the primary membership of the party," he said, adding that she was a "guided missile" of Amar Singh.
Asked about the future of Sanjay Dutt, another party General Secretary who quit his post to express solidarity with Amar Singh, he said the party does not take any cognisance of him. "He was not associated with the party. After campaigning for the party in UP, he voted for the Congress in Maharashtra. As he has already resigned from the party post we do not take any congnisance of him anymore," he said.

Amitabh Bachchan will be new brand ambassador of Gujarat

Amitabh Bachchan on Monday accepted the Gujarat government’s offer to be the new “brand ambassador” for the State . In his letter of acceptance to Chief Minister Narendra Modi, Mr. Bachchan said: “You have very graciously considered my appointment as brand ambassador for Gujarat. I accept the offer with great humility. I hope we will be able to work together for the betterment of Gujarat.”
Mr. Bachchan had volunteered to act as the brand ambassador for the State during his visit to Gandhinagar on January 6 for a special screening of his film “Paa,” for Mr. Modi and other top dignitaries in the State, seeking tax exemption for the film. He was all praise for Mr. Modi and Gujarat, and said he was highly impressed by the development of the State and would like to “lend his voice and face” if the government planned any documentary to showcase the State’s case for development in tourism and other sectors. He had also described Mr. Modi as a “simple man,” unlike a head of state. A thrilled Mr. Modi followed this up by sending him an offer to act as the State’s brand ambassador which was promptly accepted by Mr. Bachchan.

Rajasthan Govt exempted VAT on Imported Sugar

Rajasthan government has decided to exempt VAT on imported sugar in the state till June 30. This will bring down sugar prices 2 rs in state. “The state imposes 4% VAT on sugar. With this exemption, the prices will go down by Rs 160 per quintal,’ says a government official. Sugar Trade Association of Rajasthan secretary Ballabh Kabra said that this decision can make way for sugar mills to buy imported sugar. “This is the first step to cool down the prices. We are waiting for government’s nod for importing sugar on our own. Sugar prices in Rajasthan are hovering around Rs 41- 43 a kg. Apart from 4% VAT, sugar attracts mandi tax of 1.6% and an entry tax of 0.25% in Rajasthan,” he said.

Surajkund Crafts Mela inaugurated by Vice president Hamid Ansari

Vice President of India H.E. Mohammad Hamid Ansari today inaugurated the internationally acclaimed annual Surajkund Crafts Mela at Surajkund near New Delhi. The Governor of Haryana, Jagannath Pahadia, Chief Minister of Haryana Bhupinder Singh Hooda and the Union Minister for Tourism, Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation, Kumari Selja and Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot, with several other dignitaries, were also present on the occasion.The 15-Day Mela has participating craftsmen with exquisite talents not only from the length and breadth of the Country, but even from countries like Tajikistan, Thailand and Egypt besides the neighbouring SAARC Nations. State of Rajasthan is the theme State this time.
One of the main objectives of this Mela is to project the sensitivity of the rich Indian art, culture, music and folk art under one single banner and at one single venue for the benefit of its visitors besides providing the young generation an opportunity to have a first hand feel of the extraordinary variety of the tradition and rural ambience that happens to be the hallmark of our country. It would be a bonanza for the foreign and domestic tourists in educating themselves about the diversity of Indian traditions and culture besides enjoying the vibrant ambiance created typically to represent the entire ethos of rural India in miniature. BJP Leader shot dead at Junagarh in Gujarat

BJP Leader and former duptymayor of Junagarh, Karman katre shot dead by unidentified persons at Junagarh in Gujarat. He was parshad in junagarh town of Gujarat state. Police is looking for the shooter of leader. Karman Katara, also a member of Junagadh Municipal Corporation, was shot at around 8.30 pm by the assailants, who manged to escape, they said. Katara died on the spot, the officials said. He was deputy Mayor when BJP was in power in the civic body.

AR Rehman won 2 Grammy Awards

Indian music maestro AR Rehman has clinched 2 Grammys at the coveted Grammy Awards 2010. Music composer AR Rehman has done India proud again on the international front by bagging two Grammys. Earlier Rehman had bagged Golden Globe as well as the Oscars for his work in Slumdog Millionaire.The 52nd edition of the Annual Grammy Awards is in full swing. At the same time, India has more reason to rejoice than anyone else in the world.
