Congress declares 194 candidates in first list for Lok Sabha 2014

Congress today announced its first list of 194 candidates for the Lok Sabha elections 2014. Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Nandan Nilekani, cricketer Mohammed Kaif, Bhojpuri actor Ravikishan and Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s niece Karuna Shukla are among the 194 candidates. Party sources said 35 per cent of the candidates are under the age of 50. Ms. Sonia Gandhi and Mr. Rahul Gandhi are candidates from the pocket boroughs of Rae Bareli and Amethi.
Bhojpuri film star Ravi Kishen, Oriya actors Aparajita Mohanty and Bijay Mohanty are being fielded by Congress in the Lok Sabha polls. The nominees also include cricketer Kaif, Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s niece Karuna Shukla and Justice Hanumanthappa. While Aadhar chief Mr. Nilekani is being fielded from Bangalore South, Mr. Kishen is the nominee from Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh. Ms. Aparajita Mohanty is the candidate from Cuttack while Mr. Bijay Mohanty from Bhubeneshwar. Mr. Kaif is the candidate from Phulpur, a constituency in Uttar Pradesh once represented by Jawaharlal Nehru, Karuna Shukla is the nominee from Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh while justice Hanumanthappa from Bellary in Karnataka. The first list also includes 6 candidates from Rajasthan. The first list includes PS Jat former Managing Director (MD) in Ajmer Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd. Ajmer from Sikar seat, Jitendra Singh from Alwar, Shankar Pannu from Bikaner, Harish Choudhary from Barmer, Dr. Girija Vyas from Chittorgarh and Ijayraj Singh from Kota.

Rajasthan BSP names 6 candidates for Lok Sabha election 2014

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Friday released a list of six candidates for Lok Sabha Election 2014 in Rajasthan. Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is planning to contest all 25 seats in Rajasthan for Lok Sabha Polls 2014. BSP has fielded Mahendra Singh Jatav from Bharatpur, Gangaram Bairwa from Dholpur, Bhanwar Lal Meghwal has been fielded from Bikaner, Sohan Lal Naik from Sriganganagar, Rishi Pal Gurjar from Jaipur-rural, and Gopa Ram Meghwal from Jodhpur constituency. BSP had earlier announced candidature of Fazal Hussain, son of former congress minister late Tayab Hussain from Alwar, and Sukh Deo Shekhawat from Churu parliamentary seat. Candidates for remaining seats would be announced soon in coming days.

Rajasthan Lok Sabha Election 2014 Dates Seat-Wise, District-Wise

Election Commission of India has announced the dates for the Lok Sabha elections 2014. The elections will begin on 7 April and end on 12 May. 16 May has been set as the counting date and the EC will complete counting on this day. With the final dates being announced, the model code of conduct has also come into being in the country from today itself. The elections will be held in 9 phases. Below are the dates and the number of constituences in Rajasthan that will go to poll on a particular day.  Rajasthan will cast vote on Phase / Poll Day No 5th and 6th on 17th April (20 Seats), 24th April 2014 (5 Seats).

Lok Sabha election dates 2014, Schedule: Chief Election Commissioner, VS Sampath today announced the Lok Sabha election dates Today in press conference at Vigyan Bhawan. There will be 9 poll days starting from April 07 on April 7, 9, 10, 12, 17, 24, 30, May 7 and May 12. 9 polls days will cover 543 constituencies and respective Assembly constituencies. The Lok Sabha Election will be held in 9 Phases from 7th April to 12th May 2014 while Election results will be announced on 16th May 2014. Rajasthan will vote on 17th April and 24th April 2014. Election commission also announced the Vidhan Sabha Election in Andhra Pradesh (AP), Odisha and Sikkim. Lok Sabha Election 2014 will be held in Phases in 9 Phases from 7th April to 12th May 2014 while Election results will be announced on 16th May 2014. NOTA facility will be provided in LS election 2014. Election will be held at 9.30 lakh polling stations across country. Model code of conduct begins from today, 5th March 2014 for LS Election 2014. General Election 2014 involves over 81.4 crore voters. The term of the current Lok Sabha expires on June 1 and the new House has to be constituted by May 31.

Cabinet clears Jat reservation in OBC quota for 9 States

Union Cabinet cleared reservation for the Jat community under the other backward castes quota. According to sources Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief Ajit Singh was keen to clear reservation for Jats. The Congress had, however, dismissed reports that the Centre was trying to woo Jats ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari had said, "Not everything can be seen through the lens of election. This demand has been long pending which Cabinet has accepted."

Ahead of Lok Sabha polls, the government decided to include the Jat community in the central list of OBCs in nine states, a move that is expected to benefit about nine crore people from the community. The decision would pave the way for the community members to avail benefits of reservation in central government jobs and central education institutions as per the existing norms. The Central list of OBCs for the states of Bihar, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarrakhand, Uttar Pradesh and the National capital territory of Delhi will include the Jat community.
Ajit Singh, Vasundhara welcome Cabinet nod for Jat reservation. Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje said Jats all over Rajasthan were already getting the benefits of reservation in Central government jobs and educational institutions. “We had demanded inclusion of Jats from Bharatpur and Dholpur in the Central OBC list. So this is a victory for us”.

Former Army Chief General VK Singh joins BJP

Former Army Chief Gen V.K. Singh, who was engaged in a long-drawn battle with the government over his age issue, on Saturday joined BJP, saying it is the only “nationalist” party which he wants to see in power. Gen Singh, who joined the BJP along with a number of other ex-servicemen in presence of party president Rajnath Singh, said the troops should support it so that a “stable, strong and nationalist” government is formed. “I saw only BJP as nationalist party,” he said while explaining the reason for joining the party.

Welcoming him into BJP, Rajnath Singh said if BJP comes to power, it will take good care of the armed forces. He used the occasion to attack the UPA government, saying it has not looked after the armed forces well. In this context, he cited the recent mishaps involving the Navy. The BJP chief also attacked the government over ceasefire violations by Pakistan, including beheading of two Indian soldiers, and intrusions by China. It is expected that former Army Chief will contest Lok Sabha Election from Rajasthan or Haryana, however seat is yet to be conformed by BJP.
