Sachin score 44th Test Century

Sachin Tendulkar slammed his 44th Test century against Bangladesh on the second day of the opening Test against Bangladesh in Chittagong on Monday. Put in to bat, India were all out for 243 in their first innings on the second day of the opening Test against Bangladesh. Later, Bangladesh Opener Tamim Iqbal compiled an aggressive 21 to account for all of Bangladesh's runs after Sachin Tendulkar smashed an unbeaten century before India was dismissed for 243 in its first innings on the second day of the first cricket test Monday. Sachin Tendulkar ended the innings with 105 for his 44th test century as the Indians lost their final two wickets after resuming at the overnight score of 213-8.
Tendulkar resumed at 76 after the start of the play was again delayed by 90 minutes due to dense fog at Zohur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. Tendulkar's knock came off 166 balls, with 11 boundaries and two sixes. Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan made his five-wicket haul at a cost of 62 runs when he dismissed Shanthakumaran Sreesanth for 1 to end the India innings. Earlier, paceman Shahadat Hossain also claimed his fifth wicket when he made the first breakthrough by dismissing Ishant Sharma for 1.

Former Bengal CM Jyoti basu passes away

Former West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu, who was battling for life in a hospital at Kolkata for the last fortnight, died on Sunday. "I have to give you a sad news that Jyoti Basu is no longer with us," Biman Bose, the Chairman of the Left Front coordination committee, announced to reporters a little around 1230 hrs. An emotional Bose said that Jyoti Babu is no longer in this world. 95-year-old Basu, who had suffered multi-organ failure was on a temporary pacemaker since late last night.
Basu's personal physician Dr Ajit Kumar Maity said that the veteran leader breathed his last at 11:47 am at the AMRI Hospital where he was admitted with pneumonia on 1st January. He was put on a ventilator on 6th January. Basu, who strode the political arena like a colossus for over six decades, is survived by son Chandan. His wife Kamal pre-deceased him four years ago. A political legend, Basu became the longest serving chief minister of West Bengal for 23 years from 1997 at the head of CPI-M-headed Left Front government.

Bangladesh reduce India to 213 for 8, Sehwag to rethink about ordinary

Sachin Tendulkar saved India the blushes as Bangladesh, derided as an 'ordinary' team by rival captain Virender Sehwag, walked away with the opening day honours in the first cricket Test Chittagong on Sunday. The morning session did not give any hint of the impending disaster as India lost six of their top batsmen in the post-lunch period before crawling to 213 for eight at stumps, thanks to Tendulkar's unbeaten 76 and a characteristically breezy 52 by Sehwag.
During the course of his 55th Test half-century, Tendulkar also crossed the 13,000 runs mark in the longer format of the game. At stumps, Ishant Sharma (1) was giving company to Tendulkar after Shahadat Hossain (4/51) and Shakib Al Hasan (4/52) had mowed down the top and middle order. Sehwag, leading the side in Mahendra Singh Dhoni's injury-forced absence, had earlier derided the hosts as an ordinary side, questioning their ability to take 20 wickets. Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir (23) gave India a strong start by raising 79 runs for the opening wicket in just 15 overs but the visiting batsmen gifted wickets in a heap in the dramatic post-lunch session, which was extended by half an hour after a 90-minute delayed start due to bad light.

Jaipur Heritage International Festival (JHIF) 2010 Started

Jaipur Heritage International Festival (JHIF) 2010 is relaunched from Makar Sankranti this year, and it will be held annually on the same dates (January 14-24 ) for the next four years. Jaipur Heritage International Festival (JHIF), India's leading community-based arts festival, will return to venues across the city in January 2010 as part of a four-year heritage-based development strategy being led by the Government of Rajasthan. This ground-breaking partnership is an initiative of the Rajasthan Heritage Authority, recently created by the Government of Rajasthan to promote heritage-based regional and urban development (Vikas) by conserving the state's tangible and intangible heritage (Virasat). JHIF will play a key role in this 'Vikas and Virasat' strategy by showcasing and disseminating its outcomes.
One of the key aims of the revived JHIF will be to bring people together to support conservation and better management of Rajasthans and Jaipurs heritage, said Vinod Joshi, regional director of Jaipur Virasat Foundation (JVF). Addressing the press conference, the chairman of the festival committee Rajiv Arora said, There is no real development without the growth of our rural economy. We, in Rajasthan, have rich traditions of arts and crafts practice in rural areas. But most of their practitioners are poor and often marginalised. Our intention is to provide a boost to them and the rural economy through the Vikas and Virasat (V&V ) programme. Development through heritage can be a real and inclusive development that helps the most needy to meet their needs.
