Rail Budget 2009-10 by Lalu Prasad Yadav

Tracing the success story of Indian Railways during the last five years, Lalu Prasad said in his budget speech in the Lok Sabha that it is all set to earn a cash surplus before dividend of Rs 900 billion.
He said, Railways will invest Rs 2,300 billion in the 11th five year plan to increase the transport capacity of the Railways and to reduce the unit cost of operations. Moreover, the Railways will also be completing the work of 4,900 kilometers of gauge conversion, 1800 kilometers of doubling and laying of 1,100 kilometers of new lines over five years.
He said, in the last five years there has also been a significant improvement in Railway safety and the accidents have come down from 325 in 2003-2004 to 194 in 2007-2008 and the declining trend continues.
