All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has given ‘letter of intent’ to nearly 20 new engineering colleges in the state, out of which 10 are likely to start in Jaipur. If all 20 colleges are allowed to open college in 2009-10 session then there will be more than 10, 000 additional seats for students.
While 10 colleges are likely to begin in Jaipur, strengthening the city’s claim of being the fastest growing educational hub in the country, the rest 10 will be part of the proposed 18 new colleges under public private partnership (PPP) in districts which have no engineering college. An AICTE team is in the state for the past few days, inspecting the colleges. Most of them seem to have followed the prescribed guidelines needed for approval. In addition, 32 existing colleges have applied for evening shifts which is also under the consideration of AICTE. If it is accepted then it would allow another 5,000 students to get admission in part time B.E. Courses.
Currently there are 30,000 engineering seats available for students in 71 private and 10 government colleges across the state. The number will increase to 45,000 if the new colleges (20 new colleges and 32 evening shifts) start functioning from June. The number of seats will be enough to accommodate the total number of students appeared in Class XII science (CBSE and RBSE) this year. So cheer up and enjoy life at Engineering colleges campus and work hard as now competition are tough.
