Chief minister Ashok Gehlot has urged the people to take education seriously as it is the panacea for economic and social backwardness. He was speaking at the inauguration of the community hall constructed by Jat Samaj Sansthan at Vidyadhar Nagar, Jaipur.
Gehlot said it was time people rose above their narrow considerations of caste and community and attach prime importance to education as it is the first and foremost step in mitigating backwardness and poverty. He claimed that during his first stint in power, he had initiated steps toward universal education by setting up 23,000 Rajiv Gandhi Schools in the villages.
Gehlot said the message of education has to be spread and the senior citizens and intellectuals in the community has to take the initiative forward. Gehlot said the Sachar committee constituted by the previous UPA government was a historic step in the empowerment of the community and the present government under Manmohan Singh is committed to the implementation of the recommendations. The function was also attended by the Union transport minister. Former Union minister Mohsina Kidwai and Jaipur MP Mahesh Joshi also spoke on the occasion.
