Rajasthan University increased 10% Seats

Rajasthan University has decided to increase its seats in undergraduate, post-graduate and self-financing courses by 10%. “The decision has been taken after looking at the soaring cut-offs in various colleges. In some colleges, the cut-offs have been as high as 90%. In such a situation, the average scorers are left out,” said N K Jain, vice-chancellor, RU. The university has 5,500 seats for first year undergraduate, self-financing and postgraduate courses. The 10% increase would take the number of seats to nearly 6,050. However, the increase in seats is provisional. “Only those courses which have a huge demand will have a 10% increase. There are many courses which are not popular with the students, and therefore do not require any increase,” said the V-C.
“The cut-offs this year have grown by about 5% or more in most of the colleges. The cut-off for B Com (pass) has touched 80%,” said D R Jat, principal, Commerce College. “After the first cut-off list, students who had secured 65-70% had no chances of making it to government colleges but with an increase in seats, colleges can accommodate even these students,” said Kusum Jain, principal, Maharani’s College. “While colleges offering arts and commerce courses would not face difficulty, those having science courses and need adequate lab facilities may find the directive a bit difficult to implement,” said Damyanti Gupta, principal, Rajasthan College.
