PWD Engineer was arrested on charges of getting fake bills approved since 2007 and defrauding the department of Rs 2.66 crore on the pretext of his son’s ailment. The fraud came to light after a three-member high power departmental committee found him guilty of the charges, following which a legal action has been initiated against him. The committee was constituted around two months ago. The committee members went to the Delhi hospital where the bills had been approved. The hospital administration confirmed they were fraudulent, police said.
According to the police, the accused, Shivnarayan Joshi (59), a resident of Vaishali Nagar, worked as an assistant engineer in the chief engineer’s office. “His son Amit Joshi had liver ailment. On the pretext of his treatment, he had started submitting false medical bills to PWD in 2007,” said D C Katara, PWD chief engineer.
