The Rajasthan Government has decided to initiate the process of recruitment for filling 50,000 posts in different government departments and services with a provision for conditional reservation to the people from newly-created categories of most backward class and the economically backward classes(EBCs). The decision to this effect was taken at a state Cabinet's meeting held here today under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. Talking to reporters after the meeting, Mr Gehlot said the government wished to extend reservation to all the needy people in accordance to the Rajasthan Reservation Act, 2008. The Act provides five per cent reservation to Gujjars and three other castes under most backward category and 14 per cent reservation to the economically weaker sections in unreserved General Castes without disturbing the existing benefit to SCs, STs and OBCs.
However, the Rajasthan High Court has recently stayed the provision of reservation to the newly created two categories till the disposal of a petition pending before it. ''Therefore, we have decided to open recruitment for the above posts, making conditional reservation to the above to new categories subject to final clearance of the court to the provision, '' the Chief Ministwer said.
