Zaheen Mateen of Bhilwara and Hina Qureshi from Tonk and have been selected for Jeevan Raksha Padak by the President of India. Zaheen (27) was assistant chef at The Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai, when the terrorists attacked the hotel on November 27, 2008. Without caring for himself, the braveheart put the safety of his guests on priority and was shot dead by the terrorists.
The second awardee, Hina Qureshi (16) belongs to Lamba Harisingh town under Malpura of Tonk district. On June 23, 2008, she was bathing in a pond when she heard girls shouting for help. She saw three girls – Preeti (13), Kirti (16) and Gulfishan (15) of her locality drowning in the pond. Acting bravely, she jumped in the pond and managed to save all of them and at the same time shouted for help. Hearing her cries the labourers in the village came and took them out. The official release confirmed that the award which included medal and certificate signed by the home minister and demand draft of Rs 30,000 for Jeevan Raksha Padak would be presented to the awardee.
