Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot with Food and Civil Supplies Minister Babu Lal Nagar participated in the Chief Ministers' meet on price rise that was chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at delhi. In the meet, Dr Singh asserted the worst was over and food prices would be stabilized soon. The Prime Minister, however, called upon states to overhaul the public distribution system and develop market intervention mechanism.
He said with good crop prospects, remunerative procurement prices now being in place and Indian prices being broadly in line with international prices, he was confident that the government would be able soon to stabilise food prices. Dr Singh said there were adequate food stocks of rice and wheat in the Central Pool to maintain food security, so there should be no panic on the food situation front considering the comfortable level of food stocks that were available with the Central Government. He also urges state govt to work against the people who are taking over stock that increases food prices.
