At the felicitation ceremony held today for the winners of medal in the commonwealth games from Rajasthan, chief minister Ashok Gehlot accolade Poonia who helped India end the drought for medals in the athletic events after 52 years as she brought the proud moment for India by winning the gold in the discus throw event in the Delhi Commonwealth Games 2010. Gehlot delighted with the success of Jaipur girl announced other rewards for Poonia from the state government. The state government gave her the posting of Deputy SP in Rajasthan Police service, allotted a free MIG ‘B’ house and awarded an additional amount of Rs. 5 lakhs for preparation for the 2012 Olympics to be held in London. Other than her, her husband and coach Virendra Poonia has been awarded Rs 7.5 lakhs in cash.
Earlier, the state government had announced free allotment of 25 bigha land in IGNP region to players from the state who would win medals in Olympics, Asian Games and CWG games and allotment of 25 bigha of land on reserve price for those athletes who would represent the state in these games.
