Rajasthan High Court issue notice to school for corporal punishment when student losing her vision because of punishment. Taking serious note of a seven-year-old girl losing her vision in one eye allegedly after being thrashed by her teacher, the Rajasthan High Court has pulled up the school and served showcase notice to the state government and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The notice was issued by a single-judge bench, which took serious note of a petition filed by the student, Priya Choudhary, who was allegedly thrashed by her class teacher for not completing her homework resulting in major damage to her vision in one eye.
The court sought an explanation from the Rajasthan government and the CBSE on failure to check corporal punishment in schools.It issued showcause notice to CBSE, Principal Secretary Education, the Rajasthan government and also to the Secretary, State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights for its delayed intervention into the matter.
